Not Everyone Wants 40-50 Minute Games

Lately there's a lot of talk about damage being too high and games being too short. I'm inclined to believe, however, that this mentality of at least somewhat based in the type of player that you are and your "real life situation". As someone who plays ranked almost exclusively and works as well, games bordering on an hour long are nothing but detrimental to me. I know this is the case for other people in similar situations as well.

When games are 20-30 minutes long, I have time to climb. If I have an hour of free time, that's two games. At even the lower end of what people are now requesting? One game is all. At two hours, I can get in four to five games. With longer games, that drops me to 2-3 maximum.

Everyone's situation isn't the same, and some people have way more free time than others. Normals players also suffer from the fact that people are picking top tier LCS picks and ending ending games at 15-20 minutes. Yeah, that's lame, but there are solutions that don't involve "uhhh nerf all damage by X%" and "uhhh buff all defense by X%".

Understand that, for some players than have been around to see the tank and ADC dominated metas over the last eight years, sometimes high burst and quick fights can look a hell of a lot more appealing.

I'm not here to play HoTS where the games last twenty minutes but so do the team fights because no one can one shot and everyone has 8K health, either. The more you shift strength away from burst, the more you shift it to sustained damage. Guess what? Getting run down by a constant barrage of auto attacks and skill shots that can't be avoided and chase you for 2K range isn't any healthier than getting one shotted.

"Well you know, Nexus Blitz was made for you guys that don't have time for long-"

No. There are plenty of people who have jobs and also only want to play ranked. If you think a 30 minute game is healthier, fine. However, that can be accomplished by shifting damage back into kits and scaling runes and off of early game items and more linear runes. However, once we start getting into 40-50 minutes, things start getting ridiculous. At this point, 0-20 Vayne starts to matter. The mistakes that late game champions made earlier begin to be erased, and we enter the "underserved comeback zone". There's nothing more frustrating than sweeping early game and then being unable to end because the enemy team had an Anivia that can wave clear until the ADC turns their brain back on after 350 CS and turns the game.

To sum it up, not everyone wants hour long games. Before you ask for things like this, understand that we've been there before and no, the game was not any healthier.

My personal opinion? The changes last patch are a move in the right direction. Less out of kit damage and more beneficial stats to champions' abilities. For everyone who wants to enjoy normals that don't end at 20 minutes, remove the top three playrate champions from every role in Blind Pick. Riot has it's own analytics systems and could easily push out a auto ban for those champions in a specific queue.

Just realize that there is no universal agreement that "games are too short and damage is too high". To some of us, game length is just right and damage is too high for a select few champions.

game length isn't the problem tbh. The problem is the scaling pick dont work in the late game anymore. Why chose jax top when you can chose gnar and beat him early and late? why choose kassadin mid when you can choose leblanc and do better early and late?

There is no reason to chose late game picks, because they are outclassed during their lategame by the early game picks.

Yea ima have to agree with elraca on this one. If they wanted shorter games just increase the gold gained per minion and minion spawn time or something. But as it stands right now, its not the speed of the game is the control factor. Things spiral way to out of control and snowballs happen way to often. Late game practically doesn't exist, which screws over a lot of players who play late game champions, or just enjoying a come back.

You can make games shorter sure, but don't make it so one sided as a trade off

Yeah, but I don't want 15 minute games that are always on the line of having scores of 29/2 either.

I prefer those ones instead of the 20 - 25 mins shitstomps that occure almost evere game wheres the fun in staying in a match that is decided in the first 10 minutes. the 30+ mins game happen like 20% of the times or even less. longer games are much balanced and fun for the majority of the players.

What should be done then is to add ranked to blitz, then if you want shorter games you play blitz or longer games you play Scuttle Crab Rift, that way if you want those 20 min games you can still have them.

Honestly, the late game comeback fantasy of low elo players to validate their shitty early gameplay is probably one of the worst masturbatory things I have commonly encountered in video games. It makes the game unplayable when in earlier seasons nubs force 50 minute games down my throat for their 1-5 games a month or w/e it is that makes them queue for ranked to give themselves their pseudo-prestige of playing ranked while asking miracles to happen.

And it doesn't matter what I do, because they're just going to jack off in enemy jungle unwarded territory and die at 48 minutes into the game so winning the last two fights out of the 20 we lost doesn't matter. Because no one respects people carrying them anymore, they do what they want.
