Banning Items More Important than Champions in S7

With the invention of obnoxious build paths on ad champs that give them skills they typically didn't have access to for balance terms, this season more than any other I've played feels dominated more by itemization than champion selection, player ability/skill aside. I don't recall a season where the champions chose was secondary to items selected as much as it is in this season.

Am I off on that? What do you all think? For me I'd much rather ban some of the newer items like Edge of Night than ban a particular champion. I don't know if this holds true at all levels, but in solo queue it definitely feels like the itemization is what is the largest abuse rather than spamming an op champion to repetitive wins. While some of the items are neat, I think their active cd timers are much too low and effects too profound for the kits they are adopted onto.

Pro-scene could scoff at this, but it would be interesting to test this in a tournament to see how they adapted champion selection simply to banning items. It could make champ diversity much more dynamic in pro-play if you could say, ban five typical ad or ap or tank items. Games could end up much more fluid.

Terrible idea, an item ban is substantially more impactful than a champion ban, and you could straight up remove a good chunk of the champion pool from the game with targeted bans. Don't like mages? item 3165 item 3116 item 3135 item 3001 item 3285 Don't like ADCs or assassins? item 3142 item 3814 item 3147 item 3085 item 3031 Don't like tanks? item 3143 item 3068 item 3742 item 3102 item 3065

Its still even across the board once selections are made and would be fun to test as it would create widely different metas. If tank items are banned it would benefit natural tanks like Alistar and burst comps. Mage items, more adc mids and possibly diana and elise, amumu, zac junglers
