If this game was worth a shit, EVERYONE would start at Bronze Five and work their way up.
There wouldn't be any of this, play ten games and get a gold or diamond or platinum rating bullshit because you got lucky draws.
IF EVERYONE started at the bottom- then your system wouldn't be flawed- even with your bullshit point ranking system.
If you get your rank by luck, you generally don't hold on to it for very long. The system works the way it does to reduce the amount of unintentional pubstomping caused by players who severely outclass their opponents. It's not perfect, but there isn't a single perfect ranking system in any game. I think you'll live.
What you're effectively assuming is that there is a most negative negative number. Unless you use negative transfinite numbers, this doesn't exist.
There is no bottom. There is only Bronze.
So no one would play ranked at the beginning of every season because you'd constantly be paired (and matched against) plats, diamonds, masters, and challengers and they'd be paired with bronzes and silvers. Unless you'd be getting rid of season ELO resets which are viewed by some people as their "only chance" to get out of bronze. That would only make more people angry about the system.
Ranking systems are flawed in every game, one way or another.
