And for how strong her ultimate is on such a short cooldown? She's using it to waveclear for gods sake. It's just getting ridiculous.

You can thank lack of wards for ruining midlane diversity. Unless you're playing a champ that can do everything from under tower (Lux) or escape with high reliability (Zed) then you will get ganked the moment you try to make a play.

Even then her shield is what I hate. Assassin champs have a much harder time blowing her up early game than other champs because she has basically double barrier summoner in her kit.

She has assassin damage potentials, she can snipe, she has an AoE long range ultimate that can deal a ton of damage to everyone hit, she has a snare, and she has a shield. You really have to wonder WTF they were thinking when they made her. She can do everything. Poke, kill, snare, team damage, team buff. Sure she is not _amazing _ at any one of these, but the fact that she can do them all is the thing.

She is a super safe pick who can make a huge influence on the map. I think Riot has the right idea by targeting her shield first. You need to make her potentially vulnerable. She is one of the safest mid laners. Start there. Tone damage next.

The Whamboozler4 votes

This guy gets it. If Lux needs any kind of change it's not to her damage, her range or her cooldowns, it's to her defenses. She's supposed to be a immobile bursty poke mage with some minor utility. If you get to her, she dies. So many people want her damage or range nerfed and that is the only thing keeping her viable. She doesn't have the utility to be a purely utility mage and she should have strong spells since she is 100% skillshot reliant. She can, in theory, miss everything she does and not matter at all. This is also why her ult is on a short cooldown. It's a narrow skillshot that she can only hit reliably if you're stunned and even then rarely hits more than one person since it's a line.

I would be fine with Lux's shield shielding everyone it hits BUT her... or only shielding her on the return trip. Nerf her durability to put more emphasis onto her weak points. Don't ruin her strengths or you'll leave her useless. It won't even get rid of long-ranged poke mage annoyance in mid lane, since Xerath or Ziggs or something will just step up to replace her. The only change Lux needs is for he weaknesses to affect her more. If she lands her skillshot combo she wrecks your day and if she misses her Q and you dive her... she dies. BAM. Now it's a game of skill and outplay and no one is so weak as to be useless.

So many people don't that its ridiculous.

There are a number of safe mid laners, and her shield isn't as strong as you think it is. It is weaker due to the fact that it has to proc twice for the full effect which definitely does not compare to casting other champion's shield abilities twice or barrier twice. In fact, barrier is about as strong as both shield charges combined from Lux.

Assassins should be able to easily break through her barrier and kill her due to how weak it is, the problem is how safely she can farm with her CD's and passive with proper mana management. She has low CD's and scales very well with CD reduction. This lets her play relatively safe early but remain very strong and scale incredibly hard as the game goes on. I certainly wouldn't say she is OP, or particularly unbalanced but that other champions and meta are just in a problem state atm and crowded out or relatively underpowered compared to primary picks.

Her shield ratio also scales a tad strong so that should be slightly tapped, potentially along with consideration of her CDs. The base shield value should stay or it will likely become too weak, burst is already particularly strong against it since it takes longer time to get the full shield effect compared to near instant burst.

She definitely can't do everything like some champs tho, her kit is hardly loaded. She just has balance tweaks at best. It also wouldn't be a bad idea for Riot to consider shifting power in her kit from her ult due to its low CD. Would hate, personally, to see her CD go up too much for her ult.

Also the adc meta is making lux super strong because of her ability to 100-0 a squishy while having the utility t keep her adcs alive

Syndra is shit beyond laning phase

Its true somewhat. Her best combo takes too long to set up and her stun will likely send targets out of her ult range unless they were in melee already. In this META, being in melee with Syndra probably means shes dead you waited too long.

Her kits just too slow for teamfights, and Lux ult can kill 2-3 carries in one burst for cleanup if they were grouped right. Syndra can Q maybe 2, W maybe 2, then delete one with ult, then stun several maybe with E... all a wee bit slower than Lux can dump her whole kit that will maybe snare 2, slow maybe 3-4, nuke 1-5 of them.

Syndra is one of my favorites, but shes mechanically much harder to use, and overall slower than Lux in delivery, and has less AoE presence meaning less damage in teamfights than a Lux will get.

Malfini6 votes

Lux's ult may become difficult to dodge if you are surrounded by minions or structures... collision system. Or if you are rooted by another champion's skill. Aside from those, it is pretty easy to dodge.

It's okay she's getting a nerf this patch but they're nerfing the wrong ability so it's not gonna do anything anyways :))))))

Yes, she STILL runs like she's wearing a padded diaper even after like 4 years. The items give her way too much an advantage as well because kids can just spam aimlessly and ignore teammates or opponents

Honestly, people need to stop crying about champs like Lux and start talking about WHY they're played.

Safety is the name of the game lately, and Lux has always had good safety. Same with Ahri and Zed; hell, even fizz and leblanc. All the bad preseason changes to AD vs AP items and costs, vision, death timers, minion advantage, towers and objectives have really thrown this game out of whack. So naturally, safe picks are going to be extremely sought out, seeing as a single death can drastically affect the game.

By insulting it, we are eliminating the need to talk about why because we already owned that part of the topic. Not that we need to even be talking about "WHYNN THEYYYRE PLEEEYEDD WAHHH"Poppy because what we said is fine. You're just mad you don't know how to play a character.

No, it's actually not.

That'd about 4 times in a row you've said you only know how to run around in a diaperAnnie bothering other players with your spells and don't have enough skill so you hide in the level's baby spots and shoot stuff randomly without fair play.

I just hate the amount of pressure the ult gives her...

Say you're playing someone like Syndra. Lux will poke at you while you're behind your minions and take you down to half health or so. Suddenly, you either have to recall or be forced to play insanely carefully out of fear for the impending long-range nuke on it's way since it's always up.

To avoid it, either burn a flash or pop a Zhonyas, both of which will only work like once.

TroyTheUnconquer7 votes

You do realize Syndra severely out ranges lux right? and she can stand behind minions to avoid the Q, and you should be pokeing lux so much she can't poke you back

Abyssphere3 votes

In what world does Syndra severely outrange Lux?

Syndra ranges: 800 / 950 / 1100 / 675 Lux ranges: 1175 / 1075 / 1100 / 3340

Lux's poke massively outranges Syndra's and Lux's engage has a pretty comfortable range advantage over Syndra's. She can QER Syndra without ever getting into range for being stunned - Syndra cannot do anything (literally anything) against Lux without being in range of her damage.

Syndra's mid lane matchups versus mages are typically defined by who has more range and Syndra loses to Lux, with a 44% win rate against her. Lux absolutely has the range advantage.

That is "how to kill someone with Syndra 101". It has no relevance to anything. Your post would be just as meaningful if it listed Lux's basic combo and said that she should use it on Syndra.

At the end of the day Syndra loses more games against Lux then she does against your average mid and Lux wins more games against Syndra than she wins against your average mid. Range is in every sense in Lux's favour, objectively. The fact that Syndra has a kill combo doesn't change that.

TroyTheUnconquer3 votes

Then why is she listed as a hard counter to Lux according to www.championselect.net/champions/lux

edit, okay so she's not a hard counter apparently but she does go even with her, my bad

And her Q-E combo goes through literally everything except walls, and if you have an orb over a wall it'll go past the wall aswell, the difference is, lux has to stand still during her combo... syndra does not, and since a major part of lux's kit is ridiculously easy to dodge for anyone with a hint of skill... well yeah every single lux i've played against does not have a happy end until her combo can 1 shot me towards late game, and by then its already to late

Doesn't Syndra knockback ball outrange Lux cc?

Lux snare: 1175 range Lux slow: 1100 (+ 175 radius)

Syndra stun: 1100(ish)

You can't stun Lux as Syndra without being in range of either hard or soft CC and Lux's entire damage combo.

walking out of it works too, especially if you are expecting it. Honestly, as a lux player some of the hardest times I have are when the enemy laner starts boots+pots. Skillshots too easy to walk away from.

Xengre2 votes

Lux has two abilities that are skillshots. Her Q can be hard blocked by minions with proper positioning and travels fairly slow, tbh. Her E definitely travels slowly (not Anivia Q slowly tho) and can be readily dodged (tho Steel Legion Lux can be hard to see her spells, tbh). Both of these can be dodged quite successfully on a reliable and regular basis, especially if you can predict player's target/intentions and juke it just like any other skill shot, particularly the faster ones. Her ult is very very telegraphed and gives reasonable time to dodge it, especially if on the edge of it. Lux is largely about predicting enemy movement/behavior and positioning due to her slow abilities as well as her teammates and the future positions. If you are getting hit regularly by Lux abilities odds are it has almost entirely to do with the way you actually move around in lane/fights making it easy to predict and hit you.

I always find it funny when people QQ over the squishy skill shotters, that can be avoided in most cases, but don't bring up the ones that completely decimate them, and cant be avoided, like YI and his Q, Darius in general, Ziggs is a great counter as well, with less/same skil needed. I mean if you are going to be butthurt over what owns you, at least make it a good argument. I mean do you really have that much of a vendetta against Lux? I know someone in Riot has it out for Soraka, so I can kinda understand your hard-on for not liking Lux, but perhaps you need to get better at not standing in her skill shots?

Amoc2 votes

Lux's skill-shots are some of the easiest in the game to land. I'm literally having a tough time thinking of one that's easier to land than Lux's E. It's long range, has a fast travel time and a large radius. Unless she's laning against someone with a dodge/dash, she should be connecting with the overwhelming majority of these. Q is the only one in her kit that's even remotely challenging to land, but she can literally just save it as a defensive tool and farm safely to mid game where her laser will carry her home.

The only thing that keeps her from being absolutely broken is that she's a popular champion with well-known patterns and she suffers somewhat against some of the more mobile assassin-types.

Off Hiatus1 votes

The term "skillshot" is a bit of a misnomer; the only characteristic that makes something one is that it is "an aimed ability". In reality, there is not a lot of "skill" involved, the large majority of skillshots are easy to land, because they are not meant to be a test or something. So it doesn't make sense to complain about a skillshot being easy to land, much less demand nerfs for it like some are. All champions have some amount of reliable skills in their kit; If they didn't, they would be unplayable.

I don't think anyone is under the idea that Talon's Rake http://vignette3.wikia.nocookie.net/leagueoflegends/images/b/bd/Rake.png/revision/latest?cb=20130929123325 is supposed to be a difficult test of player skill.

Absolutely not. I agree with you. Lux's E, W and R, however, aren't much more difficult to land. As such, the argument that her damage and cooldowns are balanced around the fact that she's skill shot dependent isn't very strong. Her "skill shots" are incredibly easy to land and they do too much damage from too safe a distance with unfairly short cooldowns.

Mirkhail1 votes

e is very easy to land but w can't be literally landed, you simply have to aim for your team, r isn't easy but is not difficult to avoid too so most of the time you cast it from fog of war so the enemy can't react in time or you cast it on blocked target

You do not agree with me; You just ignored everything what I wrote and continued on your rant!

You say glibly say "Her 'skill shots' " in quotes when skillshot abilities are not supposed a test of skill; skillshots are not, as a category, supposed to be hard to land and they aren't, which is the reality of this game.

Read my posts again genius. My comments about Lux were in response to an argument that her overtuned damaged and low cooldowns are justified because of her he easily dodged "skillshots". I argued that no, they're not easily dodged or hard to land, thus that isn't a good reason for how strong and safe she is atm.

Your response (twice now) is to natter on about the semantics of the term "skillshot" and what is or isn't the intended meaning of the term. Cool!

Tobias Brackner1 votes

I don't see Lux every single game, how often do you play?

Weasel Kensei1 votes

I like Lux, she was like one of the first champions I bought with IP when I started out.

I like her kit, the theme, the effects and all that.

The problem is, her kit is VERY long range. You have to stand behind minions to avoid her Q, and you cant really hide behind them cause of her E. She has a lot of power in her Q and E, and a couple truck loads in her R, her W just means she can sustain through poke on her while she throws nearly undodgable Es at you, and can farm and wave clear all at the same time. She has a decent amount of CC loaded into her kit too, namely the snare that makes the burst combo so easy, but even her E slows enough to make it good for landing the Q. The point is her kit is great for landing her R that is the crux of her power.

All that and her kit is brain-dead easy to combo burst with: hit a Q then E+R, get a kill or chunk their health, do it again in 60 seconds. Shes mechanically simple to use, very safe overall, has a lot of options in 1v1 and teamfights. With a Chaliceitem 3028 she almost cant go oom, this is when she can use her R to start wave clearing cause its up so much. Honestly her ult is better at objective control than Ziggs ult because it goes nearly as far and has much less wind up time.

The problem isnt that Lux is really overpowered, its that she has one of the better kits for dealing with the new META, and many other mages dont. She could survive a reduction in damage to minions/monsters with her ult. This will reduce her use of ults for wave clear, and reduce her objective contesting power a bit.

It wont really hurt her laneing as she can still bully peoples face off with her mile long "skill shots" though Im loath to call her E a skill shot.

I suspect shes being ignored for nerfs because we have an immobile mage update in the works. More than likely there will be some touch ups to mages in general, and itemization which will help other mages that cant perform as well as Lux in this META.

This is part of what I mean by the new META, and other factors.
