Seriously, what the hell is the point of utility supports anymore?

I can just go brand, malz, or velkoz and bully the crap out of the adc early laning phase and delete anyone come late. OR I can play a support that provides cc, some heals, utility, but have damage that can barely tickle a bunny.

The latter has become obsolete in the game.

Sion has a low playrate so I don't think he fits in the proof but the rest of the Champions on your list is right.

As a sona main myself, I do enjoy the combination of damage and utility. However, I do find it that comes at a cost that makes her unfavorable by the meta. Her ult passive gives her amassing power at later stages in the game. Which doesn't always help in an early game snowball meta, in addition to the fact that the support is often under leveled.

Actually, I think the snowball meta is part of the reason why mage supports are favored. Turn bot lane into a kill lane, and you will role with the entire game.

I have player her as one of my mains since end of season 2 when I started playing

part of the reason her damage hurts so much early is bot lane typically don't have MR vs her and makes her poke more sustained due to lack of mr

Utility Supports essentially work to break even in lane because they will have a significant advantage in the team phase. Take Janna, for example. If you break even to a Janna, she's going to crush you in later team fights with her healing. AP Supports really can't keep up with the level of healing and shielding a Janna/Karma/Soraka can bring into the mid/late game.

Losing the early game doesn't mean you will lose the entire game.
