How is leveling done?

So my friend is currently lvl 50 and I'm level 45. It takes me (lvl 45) 3360 XP to lvl up. It takes him less than 3K. Is this a bug? Or is it just this way after lvl 50?

Update. I'm level 46 now. It takes me 3360 to level up to 47 and he's lvl 52. It takes him 2688 to level up. I don't understand.
