Galio buffs

While Galio does need buffs, the ones on the PBE right now are a step in bad direction. For those of you that don't know:

Galio Idol of Durand (R) base damage lowered to 200/300/400 from 220/330/440 Idol of Durand (R) damage now increases by 10% for each attack suffered from 5%. Maximum bonus damage now up to 80% [360/540/720 (+1.08 AP)] from 40% [308/462/616 (+ .84 AP)]

The buffs here focus only on his ultimate, which makes very little sense - considering that it's already the strongest AoE CC ultimate in the game with 2 seconds of Taunt that cannot be reduced with tenacity and the highest damage (if he gets hit 8 times, which is quite possible) output compared to other similar abilities.

What's more - this buff will only increase his reliance on ultimate (and he's basically only an ultimate machine already) and flash, while not really resolving any of his problems. He will pretty much become a guy that can wreck your whole team every 5 minutes (with something like 500 AP, his ultimate will deal up to 1260 damage if fully charged, which is an overkill considering that it's not hard to charge it) but becoming useless once his flash is on CD (like current Galio pretty much).

Buffs like this would help him way more:

Q: Resolute Smite Mana cost down to 55/60/65/70/75 (from 60/65/70/75/80) Ability power scaling increased to 65% (from 60%)

W: Runic Bulwark Mana cost changed to 45/50/55/60/65 (from 60 at all ranks)

E: Righteous Gust Ability power scaling increased to 55% (from 50%) Now reduces slow effects by 10/12,5/15/17,5/20% (similarly to boots of swiftness and the mastery)

R: Idol of Durand Ability power scaling increased to 65% (from 60%) up to a maximum of 91% (from 84%)

I believe this would help him on lane (with lower mana costs on both Q and W), and the E change would make positioning for ult a bit easier without the flash (making him at least a bit less flash reliant). Also, higher damage on Q and E would make him just a tiny bit better at fighting enemy team while his ultimate is on cooldown.

I agree with the opinion that a mere Galio ult buff is **not **the most satisfying direction...

Then again, maybe the Galio ult is not really that powerful given the amount of counterplay there is to it (cleanses/interruptions/no real gap closer on Galio's kit)

I think that the ultimate is allowed to be as strong as it is precisely because it have a lot of counterplay.

Now I realize based on what I said it may be unclear what I was thinking and feeling....

I posted originally just to say the first line. Because Galio feels like an ult bot, and it'd be nice if he felt thoroughly like an awesome champion.

And then I thought, maybe buffing Galio's ult is reasonable, considering how counterable it is. And then I compared it to something like an Amumu ult in my mind (checking out their base damage and ap ratios)... Amumu ult which is larger and lacks an interruptable channel. Although Amumu is a very different champion... who would lane very poorly if he did lane, and lacks range but has a decent way to gap close. I decided not to bring up such a comparison.

Well, you can still use abilities during Amumu ultimate, which is a big difference. Also, it is reduced by tenacity... And isn't Galio ultimate bigger? Wiki clearly says that Amumu is 550 and Galio is 600 (575 is it was interrupted), but of course wiki can be wrong (I think it just feels bigger because Amumu is a rather small champion).

I find it funny that the community still thinks that Galio needs buffs. He is in a fine spot right now. People just need to actually play him for more than 2 games because he is more difficult to make work than, let's say, Katarina. He isn't a "Play 2 games and figure him out" sort of champion. The same goes for all of the champions that people say are "bad" like these guys Anivia Gangplank Kayle Olaf Trundle Veigar Zyra Zilean Yorick Nocturne MissFortune Elise

They take time to practice, and a majority of the community thinks that if you can't play someone decently after 2-4 games with them, then they are either bad or not worth the time.

I have to disagree. Some of those champions listed by you certainly have some number problems just like Galio (like Gangplank and Miss Fortune).

In Galio case it's usually his mana costs being too high (early game) and his scalings being a little bit too weak for late game... But that's about it. He's not completely underpowered or anything, but he's certainly on the weak side of champions.

i doubt your changes would make any difference as he would still be the exact same champ but with slightly more damage and slightly less mana cost. mana allready isnt his problem while damage isnt either.

what he needs is his righteous gusts utility improved because its movementspeed buff is low, very limited in size and cooldown and just outclassed by basically every other movementspeed buff in the game. its damage should be reduced greatly but its width and range should be increased. the width probably same as namis ultimate and the range to about 1300. this way he could reliably lay down a path of speed for his allies walking into the direction of the gust, as it only speeds up if you walk int hat direction. then, you could make the speedup scale with AP like many other utility spells and it could also slow enmies SLIGHTLY who walk against the wind.

this would also help him to get into a good ult position better. it would just be an overall very good asset for galio to be usefull for a team.

the second "buff" he needs badly is that his runic bullwark heals the target of the shield, and not himself only, as this wastes a big portion of his supportive power. also the shield doesnt scale on anything at all and only the heal does, so if he uses it on an ally, even the scaling goes to waste.

with those changes, he would instantly skyrocket into viability as his base stats and damage are allready incredibly high, but as it is right now, he only has 2 abilities...

Mana in the early stages of the game is a major problem of Gallio, so is his poor damage-scaleing in the later stages of the game. And his E movementspeed buff is pretty massive. If the Aoe of his E would getincrewased, the misslespeed would need to be lowered as it's already one of the easiest to land skillshots in the game. W healing himself while increasing defstats of another person is a unique mechanic and has quite some use-cases. i often enough went low out of a fight, used W on our remaining frontline and gaines enough health to reenter the fight, while 90 armor/mr still makes the target far more tanky.

I have to agree, those buffs are going in the totally wrong direction. His problem never was that he had to little impact with a fully channled ult, but that it is a bit to hard to get that ult down while his impact without the ult is a bit to low. slightly less manacosts and a bit better scaleing on his base kit would go a long way. Another option woulöd be makeing it more reliable by makeing him cc-imune vs targets that are taunted by his ult, they could even let it be affeckted by tenacity again, but getting cced out of your ult the moment u use it by a champion that is actually taunted by it is about the most frustraiting thing ever for Gallio.

Another big issue with Gallio are his AAs. They simply serv no purpose beside Lasthitting in the early. His Basevalues are weak compared to other tanks, and he has not a single skill in his kit working with them. He's Probably the only melee in the game that has not a single reason to ever get into melee range for an AA, which just feels wrong while playing him.

Oh yeah, making his ultimate less interruptable would make him so much better... For example making it uninterruptable during the startup (let's say 0,25-0,5s).

As for his AA - I don't really that's a problem. His AD is quite high (63-119 AD is really good) and as a mage it's only natural for his AA to not do much.

mana allready isnt his problem

It's his greatest problem early game. The mana costs are big, and his mana regen is "okay" at best. Of course, this is meaningless later, as you should be getting Athene on him.

while damage isnt either.

This is exactly the opposite - it's very good early/mid, but his scalings just aren't enough for late game.

As for his W - I disagree. I prefer this skill to always heal myself regardless of who I use it on - and it's an amazing skill in general.

The only thing that Galio needs is either slightly lower mana costs or slightly higher mana pool/regen. His early game is incredibly difficult due to being OOM quite often if you are facing a ranged opponent who can poke you down.

Okay so people always make huge mistakes about things like this.

You say that Galio is 100% reliant on flash. That's implying he will be the one who initiates fights.

That's not his job lol.

If his flash is down, he is not "Useless"

He still does decent damage, has an aoe speedboost and resist steriod, and has some of the best anti dive peel in the game.

Stand next to your adc, if someone jumps on them, click R.
