Every Taric main agrees, his default adaptive should be AD

Taric's passive doubles your attack speed. This makes him an auto-attack based champion in the early game. Even if you DON'T want to spec into AD, it's orders of magnitude more useful and natural early. The most you can do without the purchase override level 1 is get 4 extra HP out of a Q or 11 damage out of an E. One spell!! On the other hand, default AD would give him the same 13 possible bonus AD lvl 1 that allllll other auto-attack based champions have access to from runes.

Leona, who has just ONE aa reset, has default AD because nearly all her early damage actually comes from auto attacks, not your rank 1 E. Braum, Shen, Tahm Kench. None of them have any AD scaling. Even add Blitzcrank and Thresh, who have a single AD ratio based on autos and much higher AP scaling. All of these champions default AD.

Not Taric.

As a dedicated Taric enthusiast, I agree.

You might even say this is an outrageous insult to my favorite champ.

I don't like adaptive stats. Sometimes you want the AD from runes even if you start with AP or vice versa.

Would it be bad to let players pick their "adaptive stat" as 3rd option in their secondary rune tree?

Especially tanks are affected by this a lot.

For example I'd like to buy item 3151 on Sion sometimes for the passive, but I don't want to lose all my AD.

I'd like to play Ashe Support with item 3303 without being stripped of my damage.

On certain assassins like Akali Katarina it would be nice have more AD early for last hitting and pushing even if you started with AP or bought AP first.

I remember playing Taric top this season and last hitting was incredibly hard because you get no AD and I pretty much had to burn my limited mana pool early in the desperate attempt to get some last hitting power with his passive and E.

sry if i'm wrong: but what if i want to play the entchanter style? ad is good vs melee enemies, but vs brands, zyras, namis, you can't use mucht the ad. But the ap helps with the heal and with the e damage, which is your range counterattack to range enemies. Even if you stun them you don't want always to go for the passive autos, cause again, after your stun is down on brand or zyra they just hit you hard back, so it maybe just makes sense on some entchanters and enemy tank supports. there was also this item 3070 playstyle where you basicly just spamed q heal and during the item 3504 meta or item 3107 meta taric was a champ that could use it pretty good. Even today after item 3109 and item 3050 / item 3190 heal/shield items are not that bad on him.

Leona is kinda diffrent cause she is a full vanguard and not a warden/entchanter hybrid like taric. She only has the full engage playstyle, taric stuns from far away and can decide to either go in or stay away, similar to thresh (but without range autos and a dash). Leona pulls herself in with her e and her q is an empowerd autoreset, so while being already in the front she can use the autos. again, i don't say taric autoattacks not much. Just that the ap ratios MIGHT be more usefull vs non melee enemies.

The point was made by me btw, not Jinxalot. I have made this same point on multiple patch notes and on the quick gameplay thoughts in the dev corner since even before Leona's was changed. This is the first time it was ever actually seen and upvoted though because I posted within 10 minutes of the patch notes being posted.

But riot always knows what's best for every champion and every player.

And if they don't you can be damn sure that their solution will not be to give players more control, but rather rework out anything that doesn't fit into one of their couple of existing schemas of design.

Players should decide whether or not to get AD or AP. The game should not decide that for you.

Adaptive bonuses? Who came up with this? Who read this idea and said, "Oh yeah, we totally need to take away the decision making of players. We wouldn't want them to 'accidentally' make the wrong decision in a competitive environment." Wrong decision?!? (in a COMPETITIVE environment) And how do you know if I plan to auto-attack or spam abilities? Now you are going to tell me how I should or should not be playing my champions?!? Get out!

To All the Designers who are afraid that players will make bad decisions and play their champions in sub-optimal ways: Stop making strategic and tactical decisions for the players! Adaptive bonuses should never have been added to the game. It's a disgrace to the design team if it passed them by and no one objected to it.

I agree, it does make sense, but if it does end up happening I'm going to miss messing with Camille's Adaptive shield when playing Taric top.

After all who else is going to have the "Magic Touch" ;)

YES. PLEASE.

Or you know.... make it possible to chose at the start of the game. Adaptive AP is op on Darius early game for example, since a lot of your early damage comes from your bleed and you can gamble to snowball.

People like Adaptive AP on Taric because of gathering storm

This would be the change to get me to play jungle taric again after the machete nerf. The 15% AS (30% with passive) was needed to clear at a reasonable speed, but maybe the +15 or so AD from absolute focus + sorcery bonus could replace it, rather than just getting +2 heal early on.

While I agree with you, it doesn't affect me because I take Glacial Augment. Tarics should feel good about taking Summon Aery but they don't because he has the wrong default adaptive stat.
