Earning LOOT (Please read)

Okay,

so as I understand it you are able to earn keys, and hextech chests a lot faster if you are queing up with friends. Okay cool great idea to get people playing together.. I however try to play league as much as I can in-between study and work which sometimes is a match or two a day.. :( anyways I find myself earning keys and chests at an extremely low rate even though I love the loot system and crafting in general! It's also hard for me to make that type of "Connection" with players and then add them as friends que up together so on.. may I ask what the reason for this is? Why is the rate of earning hextech loot so much lower if you are just relying on yourself to get an S+ or so?

NOTE, I may be wrong about some of the earnings this is just what I've seen or read up on.
