Disparity in Champion Mastery points Win v Loss

I don't get why losing a game is reason enough to get 1/6 of the mastery points regardless of how well I've done. I've had games where I had the best KDA in the game(Most Kills&Assists, least Deaths), but lost in the end and only got 240 points. But if I feed hard early game and get carried to victory by my team I get over 1000 points. Mastery should reflect individual skill with a champion not whether or not the rest of your team does well.
