So is it me or is magic resistance slightly obtuse?

I just played a match where I, as a brand, could not get the enemy Xin below half health with a full basic combo and passive. This seems a little odd considering my magic pen runes, mysteries, liandry's torment, and void staff. Now of course you can imagien he had quite a bit of mr, but the thing is, he only had a visage. JUST a visage, and I had 4 separate sources of mp and I still I couldn't put real dmg on him

That doesn't seem right to me. Is this a commonly acknowledged thing or am i missing something? Being able to do dmg and kill someone then suddenly not bc they bought a weaker mr item seems kinda stupid, this is despite having the items and setup to counter said resistance. And i don't feel like armor has the same issue in the same context. Maybe we need an ap last whisper item, idk.

The common wisdom is that there isn't enough MR in the game, and it's BS, and FoN needs to come back or some shit.

Thing is, that a tanky thing that heals, and cc's you is going to train your brand down unless you are very far ahead of him. I think the biggest thing you were missing is that he was healing through part of your damage.
