Rapid fire cannon clearing Wards problem (item passive abuse)

So I noticed for the past week or so but kept forgetting to mention it; how ever it happened again last game so I figured I bring it up. What is the deal with item 3094 and wards getting the extra range for every auto it hits the ward and not loosing the item passive? I think this is an unfair advantage for clearing wards if it isn't a bug.

So basically every time I got my passive up on rapid fire go to AA a ward then side step I instantly get the item passive up again for extended range.

I don't think it is a bug, it seems to be more of a "not punish adc's by expending their charge on something that does not interact with the extra effects that the item gives", which has the side effect of not removing the range.

It could also be that the charge can only be expended in combat, but attacking wards doesn't count as combat(nor plants), so it cannot expend(and therefore the range is kept). Is it unfair? Most likely, but then again, anyone can buy item 3094 if they wanted(seriously, anyone. It increases melee champs range too), so it isn't an advantage that others cannot cash in on.

You don't expend enhanced attacks when attacking wards. Since Rapid Firecannon is an enhanced attack with a bonus that is applied before the attack itself, it just gets a neat little bonus.
