Well the healing mechanic is what made it pretty OP.

This will put Ardent in a decent spot without trashing the item.

I'm not sure I would want to build it now to be honest.

Yes, the healing mechanic made it kinda broken. Yes it deserved to get gutted.

It's the only thing I liked about the item though.

yeah it won't be a priority item for sure.

The main thing op about it was the drain's interaction with Athene's/heal+shield power. Now it's quite a pointless or later-game item except for its heal/shield bonus. Redemption will be priority buy again.

I think Sona will still really like it since she can keep uptime on it constantly and on her whole team, benefitting all of her autoattackers, plus anyone else who weaves autos between their spells.

Shadow Hazard2 votes

I would probably just go back to full ap sona after the change goes live.

Heroquet7 votes

It's still a great booster for some objectives (dragon / baron especially, since everyone attacks them).

Daedric Etwahl1 votes

Fair, but I'll definitely stick to my Sonambulance build and save AP for Sona mid.

Problem is you want it now only if you are laning with an ADC with low base AD and/or attack speed. Otherwise, it's late game.

You don't get an item in laning phase just because it benefits the whole team. You won't even be with the whole team during that phase.

Daedric Etwahl1 votes

Sure she might not rush it anymore, but it'll still be a great item on her most likely, lategame or no

Glory ln Death1 votes

Honestly, it probably won't get picked up that much unless there are at least 2 dedicated auto-attackers on the team, or the ADC really likes attack speed.

Sire Hippington1 votes

So...as it should be?

Glory ln Death1 votes

Exactly.

well, it now goes back to it's intendet purpose: a niche item you get when you want to boost an AS/on-hit affine champ(like Kog) or can proc it reliably on multiple AA focused allies.

At least it's better against towers I guess.

As a Soraka main, all i can say is : "FINALLY!" (Yeah, i know... odd coming from someone who mains a champion that could abuse Ardent)

Now if they only brought Coin in line and made Spellthiefs a more enticing option for us Enchanter players who prefer to be a bit more active... Rito PLS [sg-soraka]

Now if only they gave the heal mechanic to Mikael's crucible.

I mean it makes sense...i think.

Sad ...

[zombie-nunu-bummed]

item 3504 could have been a balanced and very good item for ADCs who do DpS and not BpS, this change clearly tells that Riot wont look at Crit + attack speed scaling problem for a long time to come.

Instead they will nerf all Supports kits and items and reduce them back to the Ward Bots theu used to be in previous seasons cuz thier kits and items were lacking.

The Cancer Dancer item 3812 item 3046 combo will be more popular now and nothing will be solved except gutting Supports kits and items.

What is this shit ? ...

Atleast I can get t2 gold item and a sight stone now instead of rushing that silly item.

DarkRitual1 votes

I can actually buy boots before 10 minutes now!

hhaavviikk3 votes

so it basically got reverted, however what I don't like about this is that the on-hit damage doesn't matter once you reach late game, so 15-20 minutes and it's just the AS basically.

Violet Fields2 votes

PBE....

Vayne's Q was gonna no longer crit and they scrapped that change.

They scrapped it again? Why? [sg-janna]

by the time i get ardent censer on lulu my adc usually has some lifesteal and it doesn't make a game-breaking difference. if they don't, sure, but adding damage instead of life steal just gives adcs more damage.. is that what you guys really want? more damage > life steal on your enemy?

Winterwings3 votes

You're saying this as if you dont know that the "lifesteal" aka Health Drain mechanic it had previously was ALSO on-hit magic damage with the added benefit of healing ...

CrazyBigfoot282 votes

They should hotfix this change

Pika3101 votes

Literally none of this matters. Ardent Censor has not been and never will be built for anything other than the Windspeaker passive on it. They could remove everything else from the item and it would still be a good item.

Before Censor had Windspeaker, it was a gold sink; one of the worst items in the entire game. Its damage passive is nothing more than a noobtrap; very few champions can utilize it and no champions can use it effectively. Hell, it took players over a week to realize it wasn't even removed, when Censor gained Windspeaker. It's a non-factor; always has been, always will be. Rito just refuses to accept this FACT.

DrCyanide12 votes

Ardent Censor has not been and never will be built for anything other than the Windspeaker passive on it.

Someone didn't watch the LCS. Supports without heals or shields would take Stoneborn Pack to get a heal to use with Ardent Censer.

Pika3101 votes

So I guess we're just all going to ignore the fact that you didn't disprove anything I said.

"champs without heals brought Stoneborn for a heal" "Censor is only bought to strengthen heals"

I guess if you intentionally word something in a misleading manner, you can say whatever you want no matter how superfluous.

TheGoomyGamer11 votes

??? He did disprove what you said. You said censer was only good because of windspeakers. He said people took stoneborn pact over windspeakers just to use ardent.

Pika3101 votes

Wtaf, how simplistic must I make what I'm saying for you sheeple to understand my words? I am talking about the Windspeaker passive ON THE FUCKING ITEM. Not the actual keystone "Windspeaker." It is painfully obvious to anyone with a brain, but apparently that organ seems to be missing from the posters in this board.

This is exactly what happens when a forum has ZERO moderation.

TheGoomyGamer1 votes

Well, next time try to be more specific. Windspeakers can be interpreted as the heal on-hit procing windspeakers blessing (IDK if that works). Don't use the term 'windspeakers' when the actual passive on the item isn't called windspeakers - just say heal/shield power. Yur wording was very confusing and easily misinterpretable, so don't act as if we have no brains because we assumed that 'windspeakers' reffered to the keystone actually called 'windspeakers' as opposed to a unique passive that isn't called windspeakers and has nothing to do with the word windspeakers. Nowhere in LOL is Heal/shield value reffered to as Windspeakers.

Glory ln Death3 votes

I assume you're talking about the +heal/shield power when you say "Windspeaker's". And, no, that is not the reason it is such a dominant item. The on-hit healing is what made it a must buy item - take that away, and it's still viable and even strong on certain supports, but it won't be giving ADCs +50 health per second in a fight to keep them full health indefinitely.

These changes will significantly lower Ardent's priority to a second or third item, rather than a non-optional first item. It will also push the meta away from Enchanter supports being the priority choices for support and allow supports who can't use Ardent effectively to see more play.

Pika3101 votes

Thank you for being the only logical & intelligent response to my post. This is very close to what I was trying to explain to the sheeple, I'm glad you're capable of individual thought. Have an upvote for my gratitude.

Thefrostyviking1 votes

oh gawd this is going to be so OP with rageblade.

Glory ln Death2 votes

How?

Thefrostyviking2 votes

Rageblade procs on hit effects twice, meaning the more on hit you have the more gold efficent rageblade becomes.

It's like the rabadon of on hit builds.

Some champs like Kog, kayle and maybe yi will definately benefit a lot from this x)

Glory ln Death3 votes

I mean... It has the same on-hit damage as 2 patches ago, and the combo was strong on a few champs like Kog, but not "so OP". Plus, now that it doesn't have the on-hit healing, it will make the combo quite a bit weaker than before, since immobile champs like Kog won't be healing without getting sustain items with their own gold.

Thefrostyviking1 votes

Hasn't it had the healing waaaay longer than 2 patches?

And most kogs i know would build botrk first at any rate O-o Sustain was never a problem to us.

Glory ln Death1 votes

Yeah, it's had the healing for quite a while. The point is, it had the same damage as on the PBE up until the nerfs about 2 patches ago (20-35 based on level was reduced to the flat 25 that we currently have). The combo wasn't "so OP" before the damage got nerfed, so why will it be "so OP" when the damage goes back? Especially without the free sustain?

Thefrostyviking1 votes

Wasn't the item quite a bit more expensive as well back when it had on hit damage the last time around?

Being cheap and adding ...25 extra damage per shot and 50 every other with rageblade is going to be noticeable i think.

I mean, it's nearly a on hits item like wits end or nashors tooth worth of damage, added with the attackspeed you get.

Is it really so strange to think that this would be quite the deal O-o?

Floupi1 votes

[deleted]

Thefrostyviking1 votes

Yeah i realized x)

Glory ln Death1 votes

Ok, that's what I thought. You are misunderstanding Ardent's passive.

Ardent currently already has on-hit damage. It isn't something new being added on. On live servers, it deals 25 on-hit damage and heals for 25 on-hit.

This isn't Riot removing healing and replacing it with damage - Ardent already has both. Healing is being removed, and the damage is being adjusted to the previous strength.

Thefrostyviking1 votes

oh O_o

I missed that part.

Nevrankroaton1 votes

I think it will create possible some problematic with Kogmaw and his friends but they will have time to tune the damage after hand if it come out of control. Honestly, it was the best choice, it will obligate ADC to invest gold in sustain and therefore make them rush crit WITHOUt having the sustain coming with it.

That and possible 'anti shield' item should calm down whiners.. I mean juggernaut/assassin main.

Glory ln Death4 votes

How will removing the healing make Kog'maw a problem?

Nevrankroaton1 votes

It is not about removing the healing, it is more like gaining on-hit damage. Think of kogmaw buying wit end while support rush ardent, he will gain a VERY VERY good powerspike early on.

Glory ln Death3 votes

You realize that Ardent has always given on-hit damage, right? And that Kog'maw's meta build for the past few patches has been him rushing Rageblade and/or Wit's End if he has an Ardent support?

Removing the on-hit healing means he can't rush those items because he won't have any sustain, which is a huge weakness for an immobile ADC like Kog.
