Gifted Shields Nerf

So as most of you probably know, a lot of gifted shields were nerfed on 8.12 (Janna, Karma, Lulu, Ori). But why? These champs weren't even that strong lately.

Ori isnt meta for quite a while, and her shield is not a problem with her kit (if there is any) Lulu and Janna dropped off after the Ardent nerfs a long time ago and since couldnt climb back up to the title of OP And Karma was in a weird spot anyways.

So maybe the purpose was to just make sure shields aren't lasting a lot. But then why not lower the cooldown? Some of these champs' shields already have a high CD so why not help that out if you're nerfing the duration?

Just a thought, since I dont understand the motive behind that change. If anyone knows, or wanna share some thoughts, let me know!

It was deserved on all 4 for the sake of counterplay. The shields lasted way too long, but now that they don’t people have the option to “wait them out” as Riot said. However the fact that these shields where nerfed without at least some immediate compensation was a little dumb. They all had above average play rate so we know their WR can be trusted. Janna - was fine, she was sitting pretty at around 52-53% WR before the nerf, (despite the widespread ardent/shielding nerfs) Lulu - was at around 50% and was nerfed the hardest so maybe a small buff to counteract a big nerf Orianna - was at around 48% and already received buffs later to counteract this nerf Karma - was and still is laughably weak, but is getting temporary buffs and a mini rework.

they only nerfed the durations, because being able to press 1 button and have the shield up on a carry for 6 seconds is pretty ridiculous.

Because shields could prevent a huge amount of damage i lane, skirmishes, and even in teamfights, on the whole

Janna didn't drop off at all when Ardent got it's first batch of nerfs.

Janna has been a top tier support for many years.

A Game without Shield sluts removing any form of lane interaction is a good thing.

Main reason is that Riot locks in patch changes MONTHS in advance. The support nerfs were intended for the state of the game three or four months ago, but we got them only recently instead - now that assassins and fighters have been buffed to the point where we actually NEED the strong supports.

Riot has just lost control over their own game. You can see how much they struggle if you look at how much they change back and forth every single patch - heck, even their lore reflects just how little control they have, since they constantly rewrite it.

Because with 40% cdr, Lulu had a 100% uptime on her shield Janna 's shield gave AD and could just be spammed because how huge it was, you had like a 3 seconds window I believe with max cdr

The other ones (Karma Orianna ) weren't deserved imo, IF there was to nerf a shield, I would have gone for Lux
