Malphite: My stance on where he is, and where I'd like to see him.

Whoo! First discussion on the forums!

Malphite is one of my favorite champs to play, with his game changing ult and synergy with a lot of champions, he can be a rock solid (HAH) selection during champ select, I do have one problem, however; his mana costs. I was really happy to see that Malphite got some attention in a recent patch (5.11), and that Riot at least knows he exists (coughcoughTariccoughcough). With the buff of his w, his clear in the jungle and early survivability in top became much better, but I have still found that his early pressure is something to be desired with his high mana costs. I've found myself running out of mana by level 5 in top (using mana pots), and only truly having mana sustain in the jungle with blue buff (otherwise I've run out of mana doing 3-4 camps without it at level 5).

I truly believe that reducing Malphite's mana costs on his Q, Seismic Shards, could bring Malphite to a balanced level. Currently, Seismic Shards costs 70 / 75 / 80 / 85 / 90, which isn't too horrible at later levels, assuming you build some tanky items with mana included, but brings a lot of his early pressure to a minimum. I think that perhaps reducing it to 55 / 60 / 75 / 85 / 90, may bring about some easier early game for the rock. Now, those of you who don't know Malphite's base mana could be thinking that currently, the costs aren't dreadful, and they bring about a nice curve to his damage. Well, Malphite, at level one, has 292 mana. At level one, Malphite can perform around 4 Seismic Shards, 5ish if you mitigate your mana and ability usage, before running completely out of juice. If the mana cost is reduced to my aforementioned number, Malphite can perform 5.3, which, assuming you mitigate your ability usage, can come out to around 6, which does not give Malphite too much strength early on, but could bring just a bit more early game, compared to lane bullies such as Jayce, Vlad, and Darius.

If you have any comments or disagreements, feel free to comment below, preferably with an explanation as to why you don't like it, or any questions regarding anything that has been stated in this passage.

if you reduce manacost you´d just spam anything without ridiculous amounts of sustain out of lane without much chance to fight back. Very similar to q-max panth. In my opinion his save but low pressure laning is a valuable trade-off for his incredible impact in teamfights later on.

What's wrong with Malphite? He's in currently great shape. It's just because the tank meta came out, and squishies stopped going top, and that's what made him so bad. Everything on him is perfectly fine so far. In fact he used to be god tier back when squishies did go top.

I think they put Malphite in a better spot than he was in before. Now he is able to do stuff after he ults instead of just sitting there. I feel that Malphite would run rampant if his mana costs were reduced. summoner 14 summoner 14 summoner 14 summoner 14 Teemo summoner 14 summoner 14 summoner 14 summoner 14 EDIT: I just checked, you are Bronze 5 item 3070

I think your points are valid but heres the problem youre bronze 5. Get a dorans ring if you have a problem with mana. Come on man learn the game and the limitations of your champion. No one even plays malphite hes bad. Youre gonna get shit on in lane in replace for good teamfight. Kid Stop you be like malzahar with the fleas over time.item 3070 item 3070 item 3070 item 3070

This is why chalice/FH used to be first item on him, don't know if it still is, but RoA seems to be a pretty good option now. His mana costs are pretty much all that keep him in line early game. Malph doesn't win lane phase, he endures it.
