Is there a specific reason as to why they retired the original Dominion game mode?

I loved it. I think it at least belongs in the rotation, they even used it's map for the Ascencion game mode, only blocked off the original relics/towers with walls. Definitely not Dominion sucks.

Also why can't we just have 4-5 modes at once?... I don't count a temporary one such as Invasion.

I believe the playerbase for Dominion was too low for them to keep the map, so they got rid of it.

They probably don't want to have 4-5 modes available at once because the playerbase would be split between more modes and would therefore increase queue times.

Dominion was, at the very least, more fun than aram. It was fantastic if you only had 20 minutes to play.

Jesus Christ, why would people downvote someone for simply asking a question?

That being said, Dominion was fun, but the reason it was retired was because of it's low player base. Low player base = bad use of resources.

There's a few reasons, both assumed and official, with varying levels of persuasiveness. In no particular order

  • Small playerbase size
  • Maintenance upkeep (i.e. bugfixes)
  • Riot got tired of pretending to care about the map
  • Riot got tired of players asking Riot to care about the map
  • Dated graphics
  • Client stuff (e.g. layout)
  • Database issues that wiped player stats

Presumably classic Dominion hasn't shown up since due to DefNotDom flopping, despite being intended as an improved version more fitting for the casual RGM queue.
