A serious ban question (gold 3+, I'm in bronze so thats high enough for me to ask). Do you guys just ban whatever you think is strong? Example, bronze (all stages from what I've seen) ban Katarina, Ahri, and Vi without fail. None of these is an exceptionally strong pick (in fact, Kat and Ahri are pretty weak once you understand the kit rules) but they get banned EverySingle~Game. Does it change up in hea- gold?

Currently I'm Gold 3. These are the bans I'm accustom to seeing in ranked play.

Sejuani , Chogath , Amumu , Leblanc , Zed , Gragas

To a lesser extent you would see these bans.

Shyvana , Rengar , Hecarim , JarvanIV , Vi , Annie

Some players though, will simply ban what he/she doesn't want to play against or have on his/her team thinking that person will just fail with it.

So it does change up a bit. I still see Vi. Not surprised on Rengar, he's a tough customer. J4 still prevalent?

For the most part, the bans are similar to your elo. Just go to this website if you ever have questions on current bans: http://www.lolking.net/charts?region=na&type=bans&range=weekly&map=sr&queue=1x1&league=ranked Personally, I ALWAYS ban champions who "stomps" on noobs. You personally may be great against these champs... but in solo queue, its not about how great you do... its "what are the odds my teammates will feed or get caught by this champion".

Currently, these champions are: Kat and Nasus. Some minor bans may be Morg, Blitz, Sejuani, and Zed

Thanks. I'm amazed to see Rek'Sai and Gragas as top tier bannarinos. And kinda related. I just hit a winning streak (I think on 4th or 5th) with my "op picks"- will I get bounced higher than B3? Or just go boosted once? (assuming I win my second placement, I'm 1/3 now out of 1 game in 3...).

I am not quite sure if I understand your question correctly, but I'll try to answer it as best as I can. If you are on a win streak, it is possible to skip a division. And it is possible to do it multiple times. If you are constantly getting between 25 to 30 LP per win, then you have a very good chance of skipping divisions.

Just lost a match =/. Made me sad. Had one AD........ And I remembered why I don't do tanks anymore. "Why are you all the way down there?!??!" "BECAUSE YOU SAID GO IN!!!!".... #bronzelyte

I ask because if so, then I found my strong picks to carry me through bronze, silver, and gold. No really...certain kitty is broken in the jungle, a certain support carries harder than the adc, and a certain top laner who doubles as a mid laner is totally unexpected and ends up wrecking everyone.

I play with some golds and plats on occasion, and they ban things that are pretty strong (they are nice enough though to allow me to throw in a bronze ban sometimes XD ) while most bronze player ban the annoying crap that they hate and/or they consider to take no skill, so the vi's(annoying) and kat's(No skill)

If I see a Kat, I'm one of those mean players who picks support Lulu (read post of bronze elo map awareness) and whimsy's their face in every engage. I'm confused on Ahri- she got streamlined buff, but her counters still murdered her (Syndra, Yasuo, Zed, Sivir) so I never understood how she became popular. I loved her (ahri's too fun not to) but then everyone and their dog did. And sometimes their pet Iguana's joined in. Can you explain the Ahri/Vi becoming super popular? I know how to deny them (Lulu, Sivir, etc) but I don't get why they were over-night pick-or-ban. Kat makes sense, she punishes lack of communication (no really, that's what she is for).

She isn't a counter per-say but she does really well in mid. Everyone has a specific spell that chunks or decides a kill- you shield that spell, you shut them down. She also has the ability pump damage THROUGH the wave really easy. So Ahri has to duck under tower OR suffer hefty damage per wave (max W, not Q...unless she learns, then Q now W). My sivir hype is for another thread. Zed has been a rough pick, something with his waveclear being out of hand. Do you think they will buff Syndra's W? That's all she needs to be viable. Makes sense Vi wise, someone said she works on every enchantment except Devourer. Which they nerfed, so she got pseudo-buffed. Thanks on the insight =D.

I ban picks which are hard to beat. like i've noticed amumus can carry teamfights really hard so he's high on my ban list, cho'gath is insufferable to lane against and his spammable silence in team fights means he can shut down any assassin it hits. sejuani is a bit like amumu, and hecarim is a really potent team fighter since he can go trinity, full tank and then still do a ton of damage and have deadly CC - basically a better version of irelia. katarina is always a good ban if you want since she snowballs too easy and people don't know how to play against her most of the time.

If you carry, ban whoever will give you a harder time from carrying.

I meant the banner in gold+ elo. When I ban I take out Kat in ranked (bronze elo, no map awareness...makes me tired sometimes xD) then ask for any other prefs. Unless I remember queueing with them, then I take out a person if they lost. =)

The answer to your question is yes, people ban what they think is strong. (I'm silver 1 with gold MMR so I play with gold 5 through plat 5 players.) Kat and Vi are still popular bans/picks, but Ahri isn't banned much anymore. However, Ahri can still be very good in Bronze because she punishes mistakes well and is a safe laner, so it's not an awful ban.
