Ryze's old ult vs new ult

I feel like his old ult was a lot better than the new one...first off the range is quite small...secondly if I pan over to the area I'm going to teleport to with his R and then I press it, it brings the camera back to the area I'm teleporting from then goes to the new area..really annoying
