The Finals just goes to show how reliant SKT is on Faker.
Malzahar is balanced around one rule in mind, do not 1v1 him. With Crown on Malzahar, Faker had zero solo pressure and no way to take over the game by himself.
Now, more than ever, I think this champ needs a rework/nerf. If not even Faker could come up with a way to beat him, wtf are the rest of us supposed to do?

i mean. i hate malzahars ult too, but you could probably find other champions that can put out insane lane pressure and just hold him hostage in lane.
if the team as a whole was better, theyd have been able to deal with their opponents on their own and relieve pressure on mid lane too so hes freed up to do shit.
looks to me like a case of SKT just putting all their eggs in one basket.

He's a mechanical god, and Crown stopped him by denying those mechanics. Faker just didn't have much to outplay facing a Malzahar.

He can push hard, he can kill anything 1v1 and that DOT ability is too strong and annoying mid game. His weakness is that he can't 1v5, but I don't think that's an excuse

The teamwork of SSG was better than SKT. That is why they won the finals.
waiting for WoW2 votesMalzahar does have counter picks in lane, Faker just happened to pick 2 champions that are supposed to be countered by Malzahar, and Cassiopeia also had her laning substantially nerfed recently.
Don't get me wrong Malzahar is an extremely strong pick that is very good in almost every match up but he does have picks that he really struggles against to.

I didn't really see him do anything special, just the standard Malzahar combo. His Macro was on point, but he ultimately won because Ruler owned Bang in every game.

If youre an AP champion, just harass him and let him push out so your jungler can gank while you save up for that first item banshees veil. Malzahar is hugely dependant on his voidlings to push with and his spellshield to keep him safe. By getting a little MR you also completely block out most of his unavoidable damage - which happens to be his ultimate and his E. Morellos rush isnt the best choice in every situation, and youre a fool if you think that you can get away with the cookie cutter when theres champions who are designed to stop you from snowballing.
