[ITEMS] Guinsoo isnt raging!
It's been years since
has been in-game and I think it has gathered dust in the attic for long enough. Im going to touch on a few key issues I think this item has that causes it to be nothing more than a slot in the shop. This isnt to say these are the only reasons but i believe they are major contributing factors.
**TLDR:
- wonky build path - - - you want it for the passive atk spd and sustain but the base items have neither
- doesnt feel good buying base materials (because of the above reason)
- stats are overshadowed by other items in its tier
- Obligatory RITO PLZ!! WHY WONT RIOT BUFF THIS!? BETTER NERF IRELIA!**
The main problem i think rageblade suffers from is the build path. It requires the player to sink quite a bit of gold into the base materials (
and
totaling 1735) without ever getting a taste of the ramping attack speed that makes rageblade appealing in the first place. There's no build up to it and there is nothing after it. It just is. It makes the player feel like they arent really benefiting until the rageblade is completed which is not the case for other items. Take
for example. Its meant to give you a boost in damage and sustain. When you buy a BF sword the difference in damage is noticeable, and when you buy a vampiric scepter the sustain is noticeable. The individual changes are felt as soon as they are acquired and the combination of them builds on that. Rageblade on the other hand is meant to give you ramping attack speed and sustain if you are low, but you dont get any attack speed or sustain from the build materials. Instead you get flat damage. If flat damage was what the player was aiming for, that
would become a
or
... That
would become
or
I think a solution to this would be to make rageblade build up from smaller items AND/OR to make a third tier of the item and lower the cost/stats of the current rageblade. I feel it would give a sense of agency(is that the word im going for?) to the player when they are building it. There will be less a feeling of "i have all these items... its nice.. but its not what i REALLY want".
Another concern is the mash-up of various (not-so-complementary) stats making it a very NICHE ITEM for almost all cases. Now this in itself is not a problem. Having niche items work well as we have seen with
,
,
, etc. There will always be items that synergize well with only a few champions and thats ok. My issue lies with the fact that even on champions whom
synergizes with (ex.
![]()
![]()
etc ), it still remains largely unused/hardly even glanced at because its overshadowed by better options. Its not even in a single recommended build
Personally I like the stats since its a nice supplement to on-hit builds but perhaps the numbers need to be tweaked a bit? Idk im not a game balancing expert. Another option is kinda in line with the previous issue, maybe you should reassess what is important about the item and rework it. What is the item supposed to do? What type of champion is it supposed to be effective on? Should it stay a cheap mid tier item or build into a more expensive final item?
What do you ladys and gents think is the problem with
?? What are some solutions? keep in mind that these are just the thoughts of a humble summoner who noticed the favorite toy of his childhood lying broken under the bed.
. It would be awesome if someone from Riot spoke on this in an interview or something. Even if my ideas arent used it would be nice to know that someone up there acknowledges that this item needs some loving.
