The games were evenly matched, but the end result was pretty disappointing. And I know it isn't just our team that has to deal with this, but its pretty weird that we get shoved so far down on the ranked ladder.

Our team averages a Plat 4 level. Yet we placed silver 3 with a 4 win 1 loss record against 5 teams who averaged plat 4 to plat 2 with all their players. And I'm not saying poor us, because every team we faced dealt with the same thing, and placed in the same bracket. I just thought it was frustrating for a team of all plats and diamonds to place silver 3.

Teams have seperate mmr from solo

I feel your pain on a smaller scale man. I got placed B5 last season and climbed to G5, and then this season Rito pulled the same crap on me, and I have to climb again. Just push through it man, best of luck with your team!

I am pretty sure team mmr is different, and you generally get placed lower no matter what.

Team mechanics can be a different world to individual skills, hence some of the ire surrounding dynamic queue.

You can throw together 5 uncoordinated plats as a team and they'll all probably do pretty well on their individual skill basis and ability to sortof intuit what the rest of the team is doing, but a fully coordinated group of 5 silvers (or if you want to be generous, golds) would probably still be able to stomp them. It's one of the reasons why sometimes top solo queue players can flop in the transitions to the challenger series, or the transition from CS to LCS, just since playing with coordinated teams with shot callers and so on is almost an entirely different game.

Of course plat/diamond players who do have that coordinated team synergy will be able to climb up much faster than silvers with the same coordination, but I can somewhat understand why the initial placement is pretty much independent of your collective solo(/dynamic) queue ranks.
