What is SoloQ?

I keep seeing people talking about how SoloQ doesn't exist anymore and it's killing me because I don't understand what this means. I don't play ranked, so is it only a ranked thing? My previous understanding was it being going into a game on your own, but I don't get how the game would not allow you to play alone. I have one friend that plays ranked often, and I'm almost certain he plays it alone since no one else in our group plays ranked. You have to be in a group of 2 or more to start a game now, is that what's happening? If so that's insanely odd..

If troll congrats you got me. If not, solo q is something that allows people to play with other people of similar mmrs (skill rankings) without the advantage of inviting friends so as to better communicate. Dynamic Queue (DQ) which is in place now, sacrifices similar mmrs so that queue times are shorter i.e. there is a larger variance in the skill of players which makes some people's games frustrating. Furthemore, League has a large soloq population that has enjoyed this mode immensely up until season 6. Whether or not it makes a difference is up for debate, but people are mad and want it back, but Riot has been hinting that it will not come back.

There is a fork in the road so to speak. Riot cannot make people that want to play with their friends in ranked happy while, at the same time, making soloqers happy. If they made both game modes, DQ would have very long queue times (I'm talking maybe more than 20-30 min. for silver and gold). I don't know the numbers; I am unaware of the percentage that like dq now and the number of people that want soloq back, but the boards have been lit up with anger because of DQ. Season 7 will be an interesting event as it may have a big impact on Riot. And now to Susan with the weather. Susan?
