What Does Your Rank Mean?

I've been thinking on this for awhile. I am consistently "gold" or high silver. I have no idea what that means. I stop playing ranked once I hit gold because I know I am probably not good enough to get to platinum, and I don't know that I even care about it. I feel fine knowing that I am somewhere in the high end of the middle, I think that's what that means.

But what I am curious about is what skillset does one require to get through the divisions? And I am thinking the divisions are something like:

Who cares about Iron. No one is really that "bad" unless they are new. Very few people are here, so let's leave Iron out of the list.

Bronze 4-2 Bronze 1/Silver4 Silver 3,2 Silver 1/Gold 4 Gold 3,2 Gold 1/Plat 4

Something like that until higher ELO. But thinking on that grouping, do you think I am pretty close to having the divisions split up? And if so, or if you can amend it reasonably, what things does say a Silver 2 do that a Bronze 4 doesn't? And so on. What, in other words, does your rank really mean about you and the game?

Yes, I know people think hierarchically, and some find personal validation like this game defines them as a person, and that being X makes you "better than" people IRL or whatever. But take the ego out. Just look at the mechanics and the metas and all that. What does any given rank mean in this game in general, and perhaps in this season?

I would imagine, for example, that with the massive map changes, Silver will be the new Gold. That's my prediction. So I expect to not figure out how to get to Gold next season. That's fine. But I'd like to think on what habits or choices or related "define" the player as any given rank. It's probably not black and white, but I think it's something we can all speak to, kinda like how we could talk about the habits of rich people that effectively aide them in being/staying/becoming rich.

But keep it to league. No ego, please.

Silver 1 and Gold 4 are literally coinflips. They seem to have the most trolls or people not knowing what they're doing that the matchs are decided by who has the least afk/dcs/trolls/tilters.

Its off population, so treat them as percentile breakdowns of skill. Like Player A is 5% better then average.

The systems function around averages. MMR is a Mean average expression of skill built from probability theory. For every game you play there are only 2 outcomes so the variance from 50% that would be expected in "fair" games is how you can measure skill. The higher the # of games the more it collapses into a bell curve.

For example 3 games breaks into a few possible results. LLL. 1 set of 3 losses. WWW. 1 set of 3 wins. Then wwl wlw lww 3 set of 2 wins with 1 loss and llw lwl wll for 2 loss 1 win with 3 sets. 8 possible combinations but the # of sets when you overlap them is different. 1331.

The higher your rank the more of a masochist you are, that's all..

rank means nothing unless u are capable of reaching scouting grounds

especially the "smurfs" that call me hardstuck xxx games when they have negative winrate in their past 20 played which means their overall winrate is very inflated from their climb

To me it's always just a rank. They have no specific or special meaning.

rank just means, "this is how much knowledge of the game you apply"

Rank means absolutely nothing this season.

It means being better than an amount of people and being worse than another amount of people.
