Kog'Maw mid... viable???

I played as Fizz against a Kog'Maw mid yesterday, and I destroyed him. Is Kog'Maw just a bad midlander, or was the player bad? I've never played Kog'Maw so that's why I'm asking you guys 😂

He was played as both AP and AD mid before preseason. He's kind of wonky right now since Riot shoved that attack speed gimmick on him and reduced his damage by 60% when you press w.

A lot of people say he's still good late, it's just difficult to make any impact early on before you get 3-4 items. If what they say is true, then it seems painfully boring to play someone who isn't exciting until mid-late game.

It's hard to orb walk on him now since he attacks so fast. You have to ask yourself if you like being a sitting duck with no burst nor defense.

Edit: perhaps his ult is good early(?). Not sure what the mana cost is.

He works ok in siege comps if you want to have another ad like a Caitlyn for pushing

Ap Kogmaw has a really high skill cap tbh. His ultimate can be extremely difficult to land, especially aganst a champion that counters him so hard (Fizz). He works well against mages (velkoz, xerath, ori, maybe viktor etc.) but has a really tough times against champions with a gap closer and heavy burst damage (Ex: Leblanc, Fizz, Ahri, Diana Etc.) due to his lack of escape mechanisms. However, If Kogmaw can get some nice farm going early game, maybe some nice kills from very long range, he can be quite powerful. Also: With the way his new "W" works, Im wondering if nashors tooth lich would be the items to go for, the damage reduction would still hurt him more than AD Kog, but it might help compensate?
