How come when i have 1498 MMR and am Gold 4 I get a Bronze 1 in a ranked game?

I have 1498 MMR and am in Gold4. I just got put with a bronze 1 and my team seemed to be really bad. The enemy team also made quite a few mistakes, but not as many as my team did. How does this matchmaking work?

The Bronze 1 might have had a high enough MMR to be in a gold match. You're not placed in matches based on rank, it's based on MMR. "Ranks" are basically nothing. They mean nothing and serve no purpose.

NVM lol. I just checked his op.gg page and he lied about being bronze 1. He definitely played like a bronze though. He completely threw his lead after going 4//1 and ended up going 4/6
