Mid Laners do you consider...

I just had a game where the mid would constantly roam and failed to realize his opponent would follow him and counter-gank, leading to successful enemy kills and no kills for us. We won that game, but I feel many carries fail to grasp the concept of cause and effect of the opponent and analysis of situation (enemy jg location, enemy wards, my wards. etc.). Just curious if people think ahead like I do or its just a support thing to think very rapidly and quickly.
