Remove duo ranking

Every single time I hear "duo" in champ select, I get the feeling of wanting to dodge. It's like a pair of linked baddies or trolls or afk or whatever.

Duo queue is stupid, not only the sense that it's full of noobs, trolls, etc. it brings an unfair match up to those solo queuing because they probably have voice communication. If they are good, it's unfair to the enemy team, if they troll/afk, they most likely will do it together.

Worst part of all is when you have a player that queue his friend into a match that's 10 tiers above him. How many of you have been in match where you're in Silver and one of your teammate is unranked?

Either you solo queue or you queue ranked 5's... rank duo's bring nothing but toxic to both side of the team.

I've been saying this since Season II... which was before they put the "cap" on how far apart duo's could be.

And there is no "cap", they lied.

I don't recall the range, but I have friends in Diamond, and I was Gold V at the time (or high Silver, don't remember exactly). I queue'd up with one once for ranked Duo, and I couldn't start the queue. So there is a cap on it, unless they changed it.

Also, we were only queueing up for ranked to test out the cap (it was shortly after it was implemented), I prefer to only solo queue, as I have serious issues with the idea of "Duo Queueing" into a "Solo Queue" environment in a "Team" game.

Actually there is. You can only be in an adjacent tier. Before they put the cap on, a Bronze player could duo with a Diamond.

Now a Plat player can only duo with a Gold or Diamond player, a Diamond player can only duo with a Plat or Master/Challenger, etc.

This! :D

Unranked is considered equivalent to Silver V. As such, they can duo with Bronze or Gold players.

Ya it's all in the support page FAQ too. People have all kinds of questions and claims and just refuse to go look it up on the official page.

Which is why duo queue for ranked should be removed entirely. You're in a gold 5/silver 1 match and you have a silver 5 on your team. That feels shitty. I went from silver 5 to silver 1 in a matter of a week and I can say the level of play is much different.

PS - As you can see, we annihilated that match with the unranked vayne.

You're in a gold 5/silver 1

Seems more like mid Silver 2 to me. Division 5 players are typically closer to ~divison 2 of the tier below unless they've been freshly promoted recently.

Anyway, I know what you're saying, and I do partially agree, but tbh it's not going to happen. Riot wants to encourage participation in the ranked queues, and duo queue does a lot to encourge participation. On the whole, the increased participation outweighs the negative consequences. Most duo games don't get stomped like the one you showed me.

FYI the matchmaking system rarely matches a team with a duo queue against a team without a duo queue. That's why when you duo it can sometimes take longer for the queue to pop - it's waiting for another duo queue to put on the opposite team.

I think mostly bad players do it because everyone knows there are big downsides to duoing.

It's not worth it most of the time.

Or, you know, people looking to have fun with friends in the game?

I mean, on my main account I like to play alone to prove my skill, sure, but I like to duo with friends on my smurf just to have fun games. We don't win any more than we would alone, it's just the fact that you can chat and enjoy the game together.

That's literally what normal games are for.

Sure, I agree, but normal games are boring. You get people with troll picks, and people don't play the game seriously in general. It's possible to play competitively and have fun at the same time.

Also, are you suggesting that ranked isn't meant to be fun? That's pretty stupid considering this is a video game...

Not that I think that you're wrong, but I think that says more about Riot's attitude towards unranked games when they let that kind of behavior go on. To be fair they need to squash it in ranked games first, but I agree with you. That selfish attitude is why I hate a lot of my normal games and want to climb.

You can still have fun and not troll, or throw the game. It's possible, but so many people think you need to pick one or the other.

I also want to say that I don't think duoing is wrong, but I think it offers little benefit, and that's why you get mostly trolls who duo bot no matter what in ranked.

I rarely play bot lane personally, but I think duo bot is actually really strong if the players are decent and aren't trolling. The increased communication can make a huge difference in coordination efforts.

At least, I'm awful at ADC/support but I do really well when I duo with a same-Elo friend of mine despite the duoing pushing us into higher Elo.

The problem is that a lot of people that duo bot are trolls or don't take the game seriously. They lock in no matter the pick order. You're trusting a huge responsibility to people who already don't respect their teammates, the game, or order in general. It's going to be a very bad game for you, and I see why people want to dodge. I wouldn't want to deal with that BS when I'm trying to climb.

The last part of your post is part of why people avoid duoing, but I mean it clearly works out okay for some people. But there are way too many cases of it plaguing teams that I think Riot needs to look at how it punishes players. None of us honestly see that happening, so I understand why so many people want duoing removed.

I think duo gets an unfairly bad rep. I haven't done it yet, but i may in the future.

Anyways, i think it gets a bad rep because any duo that says they're a duo typically does so to obtain their preferred duo role (often bot Lane, sometimes a solo Lane and a jungle). If they're duo'ing and only willing to play a specific role, it's often because they acknowledge they're weak at other roles - which inherently means they have poor game knowledge and poor decision making, poor shot calling, etc... they're going to be bad players and are going to lose more often than not.

The thing is though, that the majority of duo queue players (I'm guessing, you can't ever really know) DON'T announce that they're a duo. The best duos you never find out about. If I'm jungling and want to camp my friend's hard carry adc, it'll go over a lot better if we don't say anything (if you announce you're a duo, first time mid or top dies they'll almost definitely blame it on you and say you're too busy camping your duo to help other lanes).

Two good players who pick what the team needs and use voice chat to gain an advantage will probably climb more easily together than apart. These duos are why it's allowed, and duo queue gets a negative appearance because these guys don't announce it.
