Possible New Assassin Items

Okay soo... Anyone who reads most of my posts knows I am not a huge fan about the overuse of damage and mobility and overall build for assassins in League right now. However, I present to you, some items I would enjoy for them.

Dark Blade Cost: 350 Gold +12 AD -5 Armor -5 MR

Unique Passive: After killing a unit, gain 1 Armor and MR for 6 seconds, stacking up to 10 times. Unique Passive - For Profit: After killing a unit, gain 1 gold (2 Gold for large units and 5 gold for champions). Unique Passive - Victory in Death: Gain 3 AD per stack of Glory Unique Passive - Victory or Death: Gain 2 stacks of Glory per champion kill or 1 stack of Glory per champion assist. Lose 4 stacks of Glory per death.

Nightmare Blade Build Path: Dark Blade + 1050 Gold +20 AD +5% Lifesteal

Unique Passive - For Profit: Gain 15 Gold for champion kills and 5 gold for champion assists. Unique Passive - Victory in Death: Gain 5 AD per stack of Glory. Gain 5% Lifesteal and 5% Movement Speed if you have at least 10 stacks of Glory. Unique Passive - Victory or Death: Gain 4 stacks of Glory per champion kill or 2 stack of Glory per champion assist. Lose 10stacks of Glory per death.

So, the first two are obviously altered versions of existing items that give incentives for clearing a wave and engaging your enemy champion as quickly as possible. I am hoping for the penalties to defenses to deter tanks and bruisers from taking them and to make it riskier to go for your reward unless you are thinking tactically. I was always a little annoyed with Dark Seal, even though I take it very often on my mages. It is definitely more of an assassin type item in my book. But I do like the risk-vs-reward system and generally I do well with stacking it up.

And the final item...

The Final Word Build Path: Long Sword, Pickaxe, Dagger, Dagger, plus 675 Gold +50 AD +20% Attack Speed

Unique Passive: +15 Lethality Unique Passive - Final Word: Inflicts Grievous Wounds on any target that you deal more than 60% of their health in damage to within 1.5 seconds. Unique Passive - Impending Doom: If Final Word is activated on a target they are also Grounded for the same duration and you gain 10% movement speed for 0.75 seconds.

This final item would be only suggested if damage on the whole was scaled back and if champions did not have infinite mobility. I like the idea of this type of item or champion ability that feels scary and inescapable. But I feel like this item, in this meta especially, would be too much. Either way, these are some quick thoughts I had. This could have the stats and price tweaked to be a late game item as well, I suppose.. But I am not a fan of late game assassins having both early game destruction and late game scaling so..

Why is the Final Word built out of Daggers but offers no AS??

how does the Dark blade lose it's -AR/MR??

You are right about the attack speed. :) I had it in my design and did not type it for some reason. Thanks!

And it does not (for the Dark Blade). You need to upgrade it to get rid of that. Or you can keep clearing units to use the unique passive to mitigate it or have a bonus over it.

The dark blade’s reduced defenses are part of the reason why this burst meta exists. People are (and will) make the trade off for reduced defenses if they get more damage. Talon gets an even deadlier level 2...

Yes, that they will. However, this is hopefully after the massive damage problem is fixed (assuming it ever is).

But even so, the lowered defenses means that you have to play even safer. It may not be perfect number wise but I think it would help with the problem rather than cause it to escalate.

Oh, and Talon is a huge problem. I just played him for the first couple of times (not counting when I very first started the game and played like two or so times and once or twice in ARAM maybe) and he is sooo easy that you can make ridiculous amounts of mistakes and still wreck a game with him. -_-

Dark Blade is way too overloaded.

Not only is it gold effective, you can also potentially get even more Armor and Magic Resistance back for killing units than you lost in the first place.

On top of this, you also get free gold as well as infinitely stacking AD (since you didn't put a cap on it).

And all of this for just 350 gold, meaning you can buy 3 Health Potions for a lot of sustain.

There's no point in starting Long Sword first item anymore, nor even purchasing Cull as a whole, when you can just buy this.

Dark Blade should only give 10 AD and it should have both -10 Armor as well as -10 Magic Resistance.

This way, there's actually a greater risk to taking the item whilst leaving Long Sword a viable starting item.

You can increase the amount of time the Armor and Magic Resistance stacks last for to 10 seconds.

I'm not a big fan of The Final Word either. It's too similar to Mortal Reminder and just has a bunch of things on top of it (and cheaper than it too).

Wouldn't it be easier to just re-add Sword of the Occult to the game?

I did not play when this is out. :) But that would be nice. I originally had a 10 AD and higher penalties with higher times on them but I was not sure how well that worked so I went with this.

I think something similar to that should exist though because it is strange that mages have that type of thing but not AD assassins. Sure, AP assassins can take Dark Seal, etc.

As for the other one... I am not sure the exact numbers for it but I think it could be viable in the game /if/ the damage was rolled back on the whole.

But then, I am not a huge lover of most of the assassins as their kits are problems.

They do as far as I know.

Mages have 2 items they can start with: item 1056 and item 1082

Doran's Ring is the safer option for champions that need mana sustain in lane as well as a bit of health to soak some damage, and Dark Seal is the riskier option that gives more health sustain and the ability to stack AP (if you're doing well), but you get less mana to work with.

You could also start item 1052 but there isn't really anyone that does that.

AD champions have 3 items they can start with: item 1055 , item 1083 and item 1036

Doran's Blade is, like Doran's Ring, the safer option that gives health as well as Lifesteal to stay in lane for longer.

Cull is for champions that probably already have a weak early game and want to scale later on in the game, though people tend to build Doran's Blade first and then Cull second.

And Long Sword is, like Dark Seal, the riskier option. It doesn't give Health nor Lifesteal, but it gives more AD than the other options (which makes it great for Assassins that have high AD scalings) and it builds into more items, which is great for Assassins that need their items as quickly as possible.

As for the other one... I am not sure the exact numbers for it but I think it could be viable in the game /if/ the damage was rolled back on the whole.

Of course it would be viable, that's not the issue.

I'm afraid that it'd be too viable.

As in, people won't even build Mortal Reminder anymore and just build this instead.

But then, I am not a huge lover of most of the assassins as their kits are problems.

I'd say the biggest problem with Assassins right now is their items, actually.

Usually, when an ADC has to opt into Armor Penetration, they sacrifce DPS against squishies for it, since Last Whisper items usually give less overall Damage.

However, Assassins get both Armor Penetration AND a bunch of stuff on top of it too.

Duskblade alone, probably the strongest Assassin item right now, gives:

  1. Lots of AD to complement the high AD scaling on Assassins.

  2. Cooldown reduction to allow them to all in more often.

  3. A lot of Armor Penetration.

  4. Bonus magic damage and a slow on first hit.

  5. A sweeping lens.

  6. And the ability to detect whether or the enemy has vision of a giving area.

And on top of this, it's incredibly cheap (especially if the Assassin starts Long Sword).

I truly believe that the items are the glaring problem with Assassins right now.

What I meant by viable was not that it was underpowered. I meant if the game was tweaked to not being so bursty, that concept works. There are options for melee but there is not really anything that is like the Dark Seal is what I referred to there. And yes, Duskblade is silly but my biggest problem with assassins are their kits are built to be perfect and extremely easy to play for the most part. The items are too much damage but almost everything right now is high damage.

Mages and others alike can start with Corrupting Potion (one of my favorites to start with actually) and of course the Doran's Shield but it is meh right now. The triple regen beads are kinda fun too. But mostly what I meant is more of different playstyles.

The cost and numbers can be adjusted easily enough. It is more of the concept that I think would be interesting.

Sure, I'm not questioning what you're trying to do.

Rather, I'm questioning how you're trying to do it.

Instead of just having a stacking component, it gets all kinds of crazy things like stacking Armor and Magic Resistance and bonus Gold.

If I would create an "AD Dark Seal item", I would just keep it simple:

#Dark Blade

Cost: 350 gold.

+5 AD

+25% increased healing from potions and refillable potions.

UNIQUE - DREAD: Grants 3 AD per stack of Glory.

UNIQUE - DO OR DIE: Grants 2 Glory (+6 AD) for a champion kill and 1 Glory (+3 AD) for an assist, up to a maximum of 10 Glory stacks (+30 AD). Upon death, lose 5 Glory stacks (-15 AD).

This way, it's just a Dark Seal for AD champions.

It's a riskier option, as it gives the AD champion very few stats to start with, with only 5 AD and some bonus sustain, but allows them to snowball heavily if they get a couple of early kills.

It also leaves Long Sword as a viable starting item, since Dark Blade only exceeds in cost effectiveness after you get a kill (or two assists), and Long Sword also allows for more flexible build paths.

And then, as an "AD Mejai's Soulstealer item", I would just re-implement Sword of the Occult (with some minor adjustments):

#Sword of the Occult

+10 AD

UNIQUE - DREAD: Grants 5 AD per stack of Glory. Grants +20% Bonus Attack Speed at 10 Glory.

UNIQUE - DO OR DIE: Grants 4 Glory (+20 AD) for a champion kill and 2 Glory (+10 AD) for an assist, up to a maximum of 20 Glory stacks (+100 AD). Upon death, lose 10 Glory stacks (-50 AD).

Builds out of: Dark Blade + 650 Gold (1000 Gold total)

I reduced the cost to 1000 Gold, since you no longer start with 5 stacks on purchase.

This, I feel, would be much healthier than reducing your own stats or giving you increased Gold.

And yes, Duskblade is silly but my biggest problem with assassins are their kits are built to be perfect and extremely easy to play for the most part.

I'd say that's a problem with the core class as a whole, and not the individual's kit.

Mages and others alike can start with Corrupting Potion (one of my favorites to start with actually) and of course the Doran's Shield but it is meh right now. The triple regen beads are kinda fun too. But mostly what I meant is more of different playstyles.

Well, Assassins are capable of buying those items too if they so please.

The cost and numbers can be adjusted easily enough. It is more of the concept that I think would be interesting.

Sure, the concept itself is interesting, but the bunch of free stuff it gets on top of it just overloads it.

If things are kept simple, there's less likelihood for an unexpected problem arising.

This.. yeah.. that is why I am not a fan of them. I think the idea of assassins are fun but they have been implemented in a way that causes severe harm to the game.

As for the item changes... Maybe? Though I prefer more risk and more reward for that type of character. Balance is always hard but I would have to really know what is going to happen with Riot's suppose damage tone back in the next patch or two before I could say for sure.
