Lets Talk About This New Ryze

Why did riot give this new Ryze utility, and lets be honest, pretty shitty utility, to gate his damage?

Is anyone having any success with him? Because I don't see him being played much anymore. Yeah, he's a lane bully now, yeah his mid game is pretty solid if you get FED or at least don't get set behind by any unnecessary deaths, but other than that, unless the guy is ahead, he really can't do much of anything.

It's really easy to get kills early on with him and snowball out of control, but if you stay even or don't get ahead, he starts to feel really feast of famine rather than a ticking time bomb like he used to be.

Any thoughts on this? Though, I could care less as long as that stun you forever, cya nerd Ryze never returns.

Ryze is busted. I love this champ. So fun. So broken.

Ryze is strong, try to 1v1 him if he has a item 3048 item 3027 You will lose every trade because of his mana shield combo and he'll just run away after because of the movement speed.

This all depends on how fast he gets these items. This is also assuming the other person doesn't have CC like Ryze does and also assuming this is against a squishy champ that can't stand toe to toe with Ryze. He has more down time than most other mid laners, especially when his W is on CD. He needs his W/E combo to proc an immediate shield during a fight.

Like I said, during laning phase, Ryze is strong. Afterwards, not so much. I'm asking on input on the new Ryze champ and the only thing I'm getting is, "Ryze is so busted, so op, so strong." This isn't a proper discussion, this is all just biased information. What makes him so strong? What makes those 2 items so strong that you think I will lose every trade without even thinking about what champ I'm currently playing?

Also, if he's so strong, as it already has been a few months since his new rework, is he sitting at winrates equal to that of Azirs?

Because people can abuse his range, it's not laning phase that he's strong in, he does 0 damage early game. He's a lategame hypercarry that will do 3k damage in a combo if he manages to snare someone. Doesn't matter if they are squishy or not, his burst damage along with his short cooldowns will 100-0 bruisers and squishies alike. He's not that good if the enemy team ends the game before he becomes a monster though, just like Azir.

See, this is where I have very differing opinion from yours. How can you see him as a late game threat that 100-0s someone after a snare? Because, for me, when I fight a Ryze, it's his early-mid game now that's really scary. His late game isn't nearly as bad as it was before. He's more tolerable late game, but his early-mid damage is really insane.

You say he does 0 damage early game, but I find him to be one of the most threatening champions at level 3 in the game. I also don't feel like his damage is as much as you're making it out to be late game. To me, it sounds like you're not including resistances.

He can still melt squishies if he can land his ideal combo, though. So if you're talking about the Q/W/Q/E/Q/E/Q combo I talked about earlier, then yes I agree he'll chunk just about anyone with that combo. However, with how easily blocked his Q is, that's not a combo you can hit at any point in time. I feel he's especially lack luster in teamfights unless the enemy is scrunched up together or your team has really good engage. Cause it takes Ryze about 4 seconds to prep to do serious damage in a teamfight.

How would his Q be blocked? If you have them snared with W then they shouldn't be able to dodge the Q unless they have a windwall or something. When teamfighting with him, peel for your carry and use your point and click cc to help blow up the diving assassins. Use your ult to block off the path of retreating low health enemies. Since Ryze doesn't have much mobility and range, he isn't going to be diving the backline unless he has flash or something, and even then It's usually better to peel for your carry and stop divers since you have such good CC. Top lane, yea Ryze will be a problem early game since he's gonna be auto attacking you constantly but in midlane where everyone outranges him, he's going to have a bad time.

See, now we're talking. This is great advice and I can see him shining a lot more in this aspect of the game.

Also, as for q blocks, I'm talking more about being in lane and minions coming at bad times etc. I've had lots of kills get away from me by the unlucky goddess called minions. If it's like a jungle fight, I see this going well, but in lane I see a lot of whoopsies happening. Ryze seems more like a kit gunner than a straight up burst mage now. He works well if people try to chase you down, but it's a bit of the opposite when you're the one chasing.

Also, if you're using the minion wave to your advantage, even mid lane matchups shouldn't be much of a problem.

I've had plenty of success with this iteration of Ryze, and I honestly think 24 hour access to the 2 second root as opposed to the waiting for the charged up passive to root spam is much healthier of a design. Not to mention his wave clear is even more insane than it was before.

My only complaint is his ult, which not only do I find out of place and lackluster, but also not leaving enough levers for balance, since it is purely utility, and buffing it too much will just make it a better TF ult

Well, it's only if you E/W the root lasts 2 seconds, as opposed to just throwing down the w. But at the same time you have to remember that the most damage you get out of your combo is q/w/q/e/q/e/q. That combo is what you would ideally want, however it doesn't give you a shield proc. On the other hand, that's not the right combo for every situation and even though his CD on E is short, I feel like there isn't a lot of damage being outputted every time it even comes off of CD.

I agree though, this new rework is a lot more healthy gameplay wise than it was before. His wave clear is amazing and yes, I have major issues with his ulti. Until you actually get the level 2 Ulti, the distance travel is just way too bad. I get it teleports your team, but I don't know. It just doesn't feel right and it is lack luster.

What about the new Ryze gives you the success that you have? I don't think I really plan on picking him up, but he just feels a bit on the weaker side to me.

The success I have on him comes from his amazing ability to roam when you take Ghost. Screw teleport on him, honestly. The ability to walk bot and secure kills for them/yourself because of the amazing 2 second root you get starting at just level 3 is freaking awesome, same with top lane. It feels great to win the game by helping the other lanes snowball. Part of what lets me do this without falling behind on missed farm is that I skip ROA entirely. Just, don't even bother with it. I get tear on my first back, rush 'Nomicon right after, and then go for Rylais right after that. I don't complete the Seraph's embrace until I finish Rylais, which is fine because I'm usually just getting to my stack cap by the time I purchase it, so it's a huge powerspike

Brain Errör 4041 votes

Ah, this is good info. Glad you're seeing success with him. Some games, I'd think RoD is a must, but skipping it entirely could definitely be good for hitting earlier and faster spikes. Good to know and hope he keeps working out for you.

Yeaah, ryze ult is borderline useless at level 1 save for very unconventional long cooldown wall hopping.

BladeSteel1 votes

If you look on champion.gg highest winrate players don't even take his ult until lv 13 max @ lv 14.

Wow. That is truly pathetic. I liked to take a point in it at level 1 just for escaping ganks, since it is actually really good for that (a very rare good use for the ability imo)

Brain Errör 4041 votes

Wow, that's actually really good thinking...

a point and click snare as well as a shield and speed for just randomly pushing buttons as well as harass, low mana costs and cooldowns, and tons of of damage for building nothing but item 3003

he's definitely not weak

His in worlds every game nowadays.

Brain Errör 4041 votes

Don't get me wrong, he's very strong in team oriented gameplay. I'm mostly just talking about solo gameplay Ryze.

Requiemsfire1 votes

Ryze isn't meant to be a solo player. He's a high burst DPS combo mage.

Brain Errör 4041 votes

I'm not sure you're using the right terms here... do you mean high sustained, DPS combo mage with team utility? Because you're implying that he can do fine just by himself.
