Help Supports Out

Support is one of the least desired roles, mostly because you don't get as much gold, XP or glory as the rest of the team. You will almost never be able to carry as support, even if you hit every skillshot or do everything you can. I'm okay with some of these things because I know I am being the team player and know it or not, enabling my team to get good fights or make picks. But currently gold is a real problem for supports. The item passives don't give enough and god forbid you farm side waves instead of your mid or adc. Just look at SKT vs CJ Game 4 Spring Playoffs 2015, 67 minutes in and Madlife as Thresh has 4 final items, 67 minutes in and he's still missing two items that are usually cheapest. He has 13,000 gold or so, which is about 5k gold short of what a full build for a mid laner or adc is. That's just ridiculous. Supports need to be able to get to there final item faster than they can right now, and they just aren't able to. (Note: I know the Vod is a bit old but its still pretty relevant, not many changes to support since then)

As a support main, supports are fine the way they are now, there is nothing wrong.

How many support mains are there compared to ADC or mid mains. How many times do people wait in queue because support is so hard to find. I remember waiting 40 minutes in old Teambuilder for a support. If they buffed the support role, more people would be willing to play it, and I think it would make supports have much more of an impact in general. Right now you can do well on support yeah, you can do godly plays that save teamfights, but only if you are good enough to make do with what you have, and most people who do support can't and decide "Huh, can't do much without gold for items to save my team" and don't pick up the role again. You are seriously okay with a 70 min game ending with a Thresh who has 4 items out of 6, one of those items being a sightstone, so significantly less gold than a regular priced item.

Like was mentioned before..

The reason there are only a few support mains (myself included) is because of the toxic attitude supports tend to get. Now junglers get that attitude as well but they can farm jungle and fight whereever they want. A support is more oriented around setting allies up for kills.

Now i will say that if you have an incompetent adc, then going supports like Lux, Zyra, and Sona and turning them into carries can work.

Supports can't carry...? News to me.

What needs to happen is people getting off the "DON'T FARM MY LANE! I DON'T CARE THAT I'M NOT THERE, DON'T FARM IT!" mentality. Another reason I like playing Lux, Karma, Zyra. If your teammates suck, you can (potentially) carry them.

I farm side lanes when I go Thresh because I know if I don't do it then they are gonna push that lane, I don't care what my teammates say. My point is support gets vastly less gold and that can influence someone's decision to play support or not.

As a support AND mid main, I find no issues with getting gold as a support unless bot lane is losing hard. The main thing comes down to your starting item. If you're buying Frost Fang on Raka, but not hitting enough Q's or E's, don't buy Frost Fang. You're losing more gold then you're gaining.

And, like The Last Ballad said, if you're concerned about not being able to carry/your carry not doing their job then play someone who can turn into a carry.

Lux Karma Annie Zyra Morgana Brand Sona

Those are a few champions who can be played support but can become the carry if needed. Though I suggest building as a support no matter who you play unless you absolutely must become the carry, otherwise you can piss off your adc/team for not actually supporting.

Also, don't question Sona. Seen her carry and carried games with her by going full ap due to my adc being either afk or just really bad and refusing to listen to any tips given.

RECOGNITION!

Also I like Zyra, because if the adc wants kills, THEY HAVE TO STEAL IT FROM YOUR ENEMIES COLD DEAD BODIES! Which is sort of the point. And if the adc is competent at all, they will have no trouble do so. If they are not, then its not the end of the world. Varus, Jhin, Kalista, and Sivir have had the best ability for this.(It also helps if you apologise after every early game kill, even if you did mean to kill them. As a precautionary measure of course...)

The biggest problem with the support role... is ADCs and the attitude of people towards you. People just refusing to ever work together no matter how much you try to help them win. support is the most teamwork orientated role (with jungle second) and when no one can see past their ego and perceived skill to accept help when they need it its no wonder no one wants to play the role. It doesn't matter what you do to the class you'll not get people to play it. In a way dynamic queue was a attempt to get more to play support, since people will play support for people they trust and everyone hates it. Doesn't that show you exactly wants wrong with people.

Its me against the world, only I can do anything to win this game, everyone else is trash, I am the best there ever was. I never want people like that playing support. They can't play the role with that attitude. too bad most of the league population is like that...

Why are people still pondering that supports get less gold than their teammates do?

It's obvious, 4 sources of gold, 5 people. One doesn't get to farm. On top of that, supports don't get kills. And if assists are worth less than kills... no shit, support gets less gold than their teammates do.

So no, we don't need changes. Supporting right now is actually not at all bad especially if you know how to force yourself to work with 4 other people, premade or not. Hell, shotcalling is still a thing, people listen to supports, even backliners. Even with premades as a solo player.

People barely listen to supports, its one of the reasons I don't support unless I'm duo queueing with my adc. You can barely hard carry as support because you can't control your teams actions and people don't always listen. I can't list the amount of times someone has ran away when I hook an enemy that it easy to kill. To carry support you have to play someone who can usually go another lane besides supp, which is not why I'm playing supp.

In my games they do lol. I mean, I have accidentally misled a lot of teammates into doing the wrong objectives at times, and costed lots for my team. As my usual Lulu support. That's bad shotcalling, but also means SOMETIMES they still listen to supports. It's usually the jungler or toplaner doing the overall shotcalling, while you can still "lead" your ADC around on your own.

Carrying in general doesn't necessarily involve killing and dealing tons of damage, but yes, HARD CARRYING (which kinda means carrying by yourself) does, and that it's too difficult to do so as support.

Though I can't argue that it is better to "carry" as a support by dragging a friend with you botlane, especially this season. If he listens to your shotcalling and that if you know how to do it right, it's definitely a piece of cake.

I don't think anyone really understands what I meant in the beginning, it was a 60 minute game with an underleveled Thresh who had around 4 items. He wasn't even a tank at that point and that's 20 minutes after the game should be over on average. Support can be very useful, if you play someone who isn't an only support champion like Lulu or Lux. Thresh however doesn't really have much besides his great engage because he can't get tanky until way late meaning if he messes up an engage or his teammates don't follow up he's done for, whereas Lux can Q+E+R and kill and ADC. Some supports do fine without the gold from regular gold roles but some just don't reach power spikes where they can frontline well and still survive to keep rest of team alive.

I kinda have to agree with this. The idea that any role should somehow be "handicapped" in a team game will always lead to people trying to force their egos and blame all of their problems onto that person. People can suggest that there are "4 places to get gold" or that "supports are fine", but does it have to be that way? My solution (like riot's patchwork one) is in the items:

-there'd be three new starting items which would work off smite, each costing 350g each allowing for refillable potions and wards/stuff -when you have the item equipped, you'd gain 75% of the gold/xp from enemy minions dying around you but would gain zero xp/gold should you kill them -the items would transform into their own bigger counterparts catering to different supports (tank support item would give tank stats similar to a zz-rot, offensive one would give 40ap/ad, with another one being a sightstone with 20% cdr and 10% summoner spell cdr) -Only the support would be allowed to purchase the item, thinking that the whole dynamic queue selection thingy could allow for it.
