Why does ignite applies grevious wounds again?

With all that easy mode executioner to fuck up sustain and heal champs with 800 gold and then there's morellonomicon, why does a point and click true damage over time needs greviois wounds? To make heal even more useless?

To counter heal. Barrier counters ignite. It's the least toxic way to apply grevious wounds and it's a good counter for heavy sustain top match ups like vlad, aatrox or vollybear (jungle)

Barrier counters ignite.

Neither Barrier or Cleanse truly counter ignite*. They block/remove the DOT. but all i care about is removing the Grievous Wounds part of it. which cant be removed.

Cleanse does counter ignite(I think you meant it atleast) It removes debuff and summoner spells(removes dot,and exhaust's damage reduction and attack speed reduction)

Barrier doesn't counter ignite,it simply blocks 2 out of 5 ticks of it.

It's better than going heal because "THATS THE META". If you go midlane and take heal against ignite, you're just stupid, barrier blocks burst and some lf the DOT from ignite. Dont forget before heal was buffed, barrier was the go-to spell to take on defensive champs.

I don't remember any meta where ignite wasn't a top tier pick even on defensive carries.

Ignite was always taken mid because it's a good way to shut down life steal and built in sustain AND get early land pressure. But it was always being contested by barrier, teleport, even ghost. Removing the GR would gut it and you might aswell throw it away along with current state cleanse

You're completely leaving out the last (and most important) part of his reasoning. There are plenty of times when a Morello won't apply grievous when you need it to because of the health threshold. Executioner not so much, but you can't really afford to get that on anyone that isn't an AA based AD champion.

If a champion have a big sustain in his it,it means that it revolves around it,and then you get the ignite they you just point and click and shut down a champion's biggest strenght. When Morellos got a threshold. Imagine Morellos without one.

LXII2 votes

I can imagine Morello without one, it's called Executioner's Calling and it already exists. The point here is that getting someone like, Swain for instance, down to the Morello threshold is a task even with ignite. Without it? You can forget about winning that lane.

I meant without the threshold. Anyways most of the sustain champions' sustain starts working at low health, but Swain is just badly designed

Except they have that strength 24/7 and you can only shut it down for 5 seconds every 3.5 minutes.

Most get only access to a decent sustain when they are low hp-Aatrox,Darius,Vlad,Volibear,Illaoi,Olaf,warlo/ bloodlust users, rengar, yorick,Yi,Gangplank,Sona. The only champs that are actually worth spending ignite at the start of the teamfight are Swain(badly designed champion),Fiddle(can be interputted, died after Zhonya wears off anyway),soraka(although she won't cast her ult until her allies are 40% dead for maximum healing),irelia and Maokai.

Also, ignite is a summoner spell, which is up once every 200+ seconds. Spells are easy to hit , dont act like it's a project that takes time and planning. If you take away ignite's grevious wounds, it would lose a lot of it's power, and ignite is already only usefull in laning phase.

LXII2 votes

It would lose more than "a lot of its power" it would be 100% useless against the heal summoner and even more useless against sustain champs.

Doesnt have to be AA based....

ignite has a relatively long cooldown compared to a short window of damage and heal debuff though.

morellos and executioners can keep grievous wounds for extended durations on you. a marksman will just fuck your sustain by auto attacking you. something hed do anyways. he doesnt expend additional resources like a long cd summoner spell.

Read above.

Because it's a sick burn that takes you a while to heal from.

Yes.

imo ignite should have been either removed from the game or simply made so that it does no damage. point and click free kills are annoying. especially early game cheese.

TyrekGoldenspear1 votes

But how does setting someone on fire deal no damage? Hmmm?

tfw op doesn't even know what he's talking about

JayHog19921 votes

It's called counterplay. And some champions like Rumble, Kennen (Unless going AD), Akali and such should not be buying either executioner's or morello's because those items do not fit their kits.

Also ignite also helps lategame if the enemy has heavy sustain champions (Vladimir, Swain, etc.)
