Why is Gnar called the Missing Link?

So, we all know the adorable (and on occasion horrifyingly monstrous) ancient Yordle known as Gnar will be the next champion. His full title is Gnar, the Missing Link. My question is what makes him the "Missing Link"? His lore does not provide any clues (as far as I can tell). If anything, it sounds like Rengar on a stroll.

Now, I ask you brave Summoners, why do you think Gnar is called the Missing Link?

I think it's just a pop science term used to refer to some prehistoric/ancient ancestor that we didn't have knowledge of before, that sort of connects ancestors that preceeded them to later ancestors (and the modern species). I think it's a hold over from pop science, where people think that species evolve linearly, like a chain, but we are missing a 'link' (this is actually an incorrect depiction of evolution(https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=xpo8SdY1JSw)).

Anyways, it suggests that Gnar is suppose to be some missing ancestor in Yordle ancestry, or something like that.

"Missing Link" is a kind of a term used to defined pre-historic creature/fossils. Since Gnar is a prehistoric creature from which the yordles descend, he's a living example of what would otherwise be the unknown origin of the yordles... he's the link that was missing in the yordle evolutionary line...

...He's a prehistoric Yordle. Do you not know what "The missing link" means in the scientific community?

Because he throws a boomerang like Link (Zelda) does...but he´s not as good at aiming, making him the "missing Link"
