I just played Talon vs Xerath and realized something.

Why the fuck one of the safest champions out there can counter an assassin by simply walking away due to having higher movement speed on top of extremely long range poke and CC?

For reference: Talon MS - 335 Xerath MS - 340

By your logic, why does Talon get a dash (with damage), jump over walls, turn invisible and deal AoE damage?

There's no way Xerath can move to safety just by walking away from Talon with all that.

As a dude that plays or has played a crap-ton of Xerath, he's in a great spot due to Runes Reforged. It's much harder to get MR to stop his early game harass. A good Xerath will win just about any lane matchup on poke alone.

That being said, claiming he's a hard counter to talon is pretty unfair, in my book. Talon gets pretty vicious after 6, and If you can get by his stun, you should be able to trade favorably with him.

He's safe in lane. Because he can just walk back to his turret. But he can't fight you in the jungle. So he can't follow roams. Which means Talon has the gank advantage. Combined with his mobility, he can greatly aid his jungler. By either outwarding, stealing buffs ir outright killing the enemy jungler. Things Xerath has a rough time doing. Talon isn't meant to just sit in lane.

Maybe because you as Talon can have:

  • 3 gap closing skills (Passive, E Q and R)
  • Masteries that boost your movement speed
  • (Bonus) Xerath can't do shizzle if you are in melee range of him.

To counter Xerath delayed skillshots you really just need T1 Boots. If you let him land his skillshots you are dead (as you should).
