So...Why is Yorick getting Reworked?

I know this may seem like "bait", but hear me out:

I played Yorick Yorick for the first time ever yesterday, two times, and honestly I don't see what's wrong with him. He seems fine to me. He's actually pretty fun, I think. Why is he getting reworked?

I know he's basically a meme for being the most unpopular champion and not being on the free rotation, but I don't understand the reasoning behind it. His kit makes sense thematically, and it isn't overpowered or overly-oppressive. The only ability he has that's even slightly "unhealthy" is his E because it's point-and-click, but it does terribly low damage and has insanely high mana costs, and it's really just used for sustain in lane. Everything seems perfectly fine for his character and doesn't jump out to me as "cancerous" or anything.

I genuinely don't understand.

Yorick's kit was infamous for crashing games due to his ult, which is why he was disabled from several special game modes. Yorick was disabled from free rotation because he was deemed so frustrating to lane against.

Basically the issue with Yorick is that he's near impossible to beat in lane unless the yorick has no idea what they're doing. He just spams abilities on cooldown to shove you out of lane, you're then unable to farm even under tower due to his abilities range.

Then when the game then shifts to teamfighting, where the only value Yorick has to a team is that he can ult the strongest member of the team, but that's only temporary.

He's super oppressive in lane, while being extremely underwhelming outside of lane.

Pretty much everything about his kit is vastly out of date, it doesn't translate well into the current game, and it definitely doesn't work with what Riot wants their game to be anyway. Just about every change they've made this season has been more about the team aspects of the game and emphasis on using team aspects of the game to win. Yorick basically yells at you to obliterate lane and endlessly split push while ignoring your team entirely because he's more or less nonexistent in his contributions to a team.

Everything about Yorick is so misunderstood by the community that while he is in an extremely good and balanced position no one sees that. The "safe" laning that people speak of is a lie, almost every single champion with a strong all in does very well against him. His teamfight calability is the same as nearly every other juggernaut champion in the game except Illaoi who has an above average counter dive capability even for a juggernaut. Yorick requires an extreme amount of skill to play well because he lacks mobility, positioning and warding is paramount to his gameplay, and he has to be conscious of every single skillshot and how to avoid getting hit by them.

The reason he is getting reworked is because he has been labeled as so many things as to be rendered useless by the majority of the community. So much so that people will actually give up before a game even begins if they have a Yorick on their team, ultimately playing worse and costing them a game they could have won if they had take the time to learn how to play with the Yorick on their team and utilize his strengths. I look forward to the rework as a chance to fix his major issues of AI controlled ghoul damage, scalings being kind of all over the place and damage reduction being in a passive rather than an active skill with rewarding usage and definite outplay potentials.

Yorick's sustain is too dang high in the Top Lane and his poke is incredible if done correctly. Then he drops dead like a brick once he gets out of lane, relying on his teammates and ADC to be fed to really be helpful due of his lack of crowd control and damage in general. He can only really do well if his team carries him late game.

Yorick is just bad.

In lane he is oppressive when done properly then useless for the rest of the game outside of ulti.

He needs a rework badly.

Yorick is basically one of the most frustrating people to lane against. His ghouls sustain him, slow you, and harass you. Play any normal top laner, and he will harass you and bully you out of lane constantly. Play a ranged top like Teemo or Quinn, off-meta picks, and he'll still out-harass you. When you go to trade, he's just going to sustain the damage away. The ghouls can die, but good luck with that. They might as well be untargetable because their hit box is really confusing. It's a chore to auto these things, and they've already done their job by the time you've tried to attack them. It's not even worth trying to kill the ghouls, unless you have some very generously large skill shots.

People say Teemo falls off and isn't useful in the late game, but at least Teemo can do something. Yorick basically functions as a guardian angel for your carry, so that they still fuck shit up if they die. Other than that, he really falls off. Teemo has his traps, which are potent slows, and a blind, the last real blind that hasn't been changed to nearsight, iirc.

While I do think that Riot has gone out of control with champions that are way too complex, this simple champion is just... boring. Your enemy is bored shitless not being able to do anything against you and taking harass constantly, most of the time, Yorick players are bored shitless because nothing happens. You think nothing happens in top lane while tanks have wet noodle fights back and forth? Even less happens in any lane with Yorick, trust me.
