First time playing URF; I thought it was supposed to be fun?

Uperior·4/4/2015, 2:36:58 PM·42 votes·4,803 views

So I've been trying to enjoy URF 'cause I missed playing it last time, and I wanted to know when does it get fun?

I mean, I've been trying to play games as Azir with full attack speed, or Taric (in general), or full AD Bard, yet get flammed pretty much everygame I don't pick Sona, Nidalee, Katarina, Hecarim, Shaco, Fizz, Jace, or Zed.

I thought the gamemode was supposed to be for silly fun, trying random stuff for the heck of it.

I didn't think there would be a meta, and if you don't follow it, you can't have any fun. Of all the crazy champion builds you can do, I see the same handful of champions EVERY game :/

I'd rather play ARAM than URF in all honesty. At least there, it's a mixup of champions.

The game mode is fun. The community is not.

I don't know where all of these "flaming" complaints are coming from. I've never gotten criticized for which champ I picked. Honestly no one seems to care.

I haven't got any flames yet. :s I think its the people you're being matched with instead of the game mode itself. URF is supposed to be silly, hyperactive fun. Just tell them you don't care for those champs and pick what you want to pick. Its not ranked and they shouldn't be enforcing a handful of champs like that in a non-meta game.

Yeah, URF has always kind of been like this. If you don't pick the known OP champs, you either get flamed, have someone instantly queue dodge, or lose terribly because the OP champs on the other team are really that OP. The best way to avoid it is to pick a champ you are really comfortable on (usually after hovering over some OP champ so people don't queue dodge) and then just play smart. Generally speaking, URF is about how well you can play your champ, which is why champs that are normally high skill cap can be good, but often aren't (Azir is amazing in URF, but only if you're able to actually play him) champs like Ryze who are literally about spamming every button on your keyboard as fast as you face can roll are equally strong, but much easier to play. Basically, play what you know you can play really well, and you should have a better time of it (but in general, avoid resourceless champs, because they are already balanced around their lack of resource, where someone like Kassadin without a resource is beyond absurd).

TL;DR: Play what you can play well (and enjoy playing), not what you think may be strong, and not what everyone tells you to play and you will do better while enjoying the experience more.

Because this community is the most tryhard thing ever to grace the surface of the earth. I go to URF to see fresh pick and crazy gameplay, not seeing the same MOTHERFUCKING Leblanc Zed and Nidalee I've been seeing for the 1000th time, spamming their shit from 1000 miles away and disappearing at the first sign of danger and start taunting like they are hot shit, like at this point im 100% sure nobody actually play Leblanc for fun anymore they just play it to stroke their virtual ego. At least Hecarim have to actually be near you and put himself in harm ways to do damage, these motherfuckers dont.

Yet peopla ask for this mode to be permanent because it's chill. kek

Last year, it took people like a week or so to find all the OP picks. This year, everybody already knows whats OP, and its a larger number of champions than you have banslots (plus the enemy won't ban OP things so that they can pick them).

So, its just bad and kinda not fun. I've had 1-2 good, fun matches, and the rest have been "Sure do wish they didn't have Morgana right now. Sure do wish they didn't have Sona right now. Or Vlad. Or Fizz. Or Zed. Or Galio. Or anything else that can't be killed unless you ALSO have that champion"

A few matches ago I tried to play AD Cait for fun (I wanted to spam ult, it makes me chuckle). The enemy team was Lucian (the only fair pick), Sona, Morgana, Lulu, and Hec. So, instead of getting to have fun, I got killed non-stop and couldn't hurt anybody. The kicker? The enemy team said I'm the reason the gamemode sucks, because I think that not picking OP shit is more fun, and that I get the gamemode taken away because .... I want to actually play it? They pretty much told me to fuck off and go play AD Cait in normals, and to play Vlad if I wanted to have fun. Screw this mode. I thought it'd be fun again. I thought Riot'd actually just permaban those obnoxiously OP champions. Naw, lovetaps are better.

Just another kid who played 1-5 games and judges all games on just those. Nothing more to see here.

Beertaster4/5/2015, 4:29:40 AM4 votes

Its not the meta, just that some champs don't benifit much from the urf settings, and your not trying to take advantage of it in some of your builds

Besteau4/5/2015, 5:16:45 AM4 votes

Should make it where it unlocks all champions and it randomly picks for you after you ban.

I haven't seen flaming, just seems like every time I don't pick an OP champ, the enemy team is always composed of tryhards and we lose with alarming rapidity.

Soleka4/5/2015, 5:14:07 AM3 votes

I haven't had a problem with people telling me my pick is not OP. Just pick a champ and have fun, ignore chat. I had one game were I tried yi for the first time and got my ass handed to me. We won that game, but just barely. For me nami is turning out to be a ton of fun to play. Lulu is also a blast, Teemo is odd, but fun. Yes I've been 'That guy' and did Sona... She is a giant middle finger to the enemy team. Even Nami isn't that much of an *** with her heal. Galio is REALLY strong in this mode because of his resistance spells. So you have options, Just play around with them. Also if your playing AP champs, Rabbadon's Deathcap/Ludens every time.

edit Oh one more thing, if the regular matches are pissing you off. Switch to the bot matches. Speaking personally I use the bot matches to cool off when I get heated from a match. They are fast and fun.

This is 99% of the reason I only play with friends.

It was fun last year.

Now it's just an abuse case.

mkman20084/5/2015, 2:02:21 AM2 votes

If you dont pick op champs, you get dumpstered and lose in 15 minutes which isnt fun for you.

AerMegildur4/5/2015, 3:24:47 AM2 votes

I have no problem playing different champions and having fun. If someone flames, mute them? It's not hard to do good with just about any champion. Hell i played a movement speed bard and spent most of the game with all 5 of the enemy trying to chase me down and kill me. It was a riot. Then switched to adc late game and used his permastun to get fed. It's a great game mode you just have to know how to have fun (: I'm always free in game if you ever want someone to play with that's not going to flame you!

GhostCadillac4/5/2015, 4:01:17 AM2 votes

URF is supposed to be fun because it's fast paced and you get to team fight and spam your skills a ton.

Azir, Sona, Nid, Kat, Hec, Shaco, Fizz, and Zed (along with some others) are good bans and picks.

Playing Bard should be silly fun since I think most players who play Bard would keep using Magical Journey and the whole team would just portal back and forth nonstop.

As for the meta, I might have played around 40 or 50 games now and the only game I got somewhat hated on was when I was playing AP Shaco because I did poorly, but I really didn't know how URF worked so I was trying to figure somethings out. Other than this one time, every game I played had nice people who really didn't care who I was. I just sort of picked who I wanted to and played the champ.

As for some champs I played, here's a list of them: Ezreal, Shaco, Kha'Zix, Bard (played as support), Jinx, Kog'Maw, Lucian, Shen (AD tank), Tryndamere, Garen, Malzahar, Morgana, Soraka, and Cho'Gath.

I've never got flamed once, why are you making shit up?

The people who notice toxicity the most in this game are actually the ones that are the most toxic themselves. Lyte did some research on this, and to quote GoT "It is known".

HandheldBrandon4/5/2015, 9:57:31 AM1 votes

I love URF to death breathes fresh life into this game.

That being said there are certain champions who stand buildings over the other champs.

Sona being one of the most ludicrous i have seen i watched her do 4k damage in under 3 seconds.

I Nut Tap Kids4/5/2015, 11:24:53 AM1 votes

Just play what you want and ignore everyone, i always ban urgot, taric and draven just so everyone gets the op champs and everyone shuts up.

Losing in a MOBA is not fun, especially if it's not your fault.

Therefore people play to win.

Your pick is fun for you but unfun for 4 other people.

This is not their fault, or your fault, it's the fault of a poorly balanced game mode where you HAVE to pick specific champions or lose. Instead of troll picking and complaining about being flamed, just pick FotM and complain about balance because that's the REAL root of the issue.

LOL Spammer4/5/2015, 2:14:16 PM1 votes

MUTE THE HATERS. SILENCE THE LAMBS.

Borfin4/5/2015, 4:32:43 PM1 votes

Nobody abuses you for your picks. No one.

Someone might rage you didn't ban someone, but there's 6 bans and 30 cancer champs so who cares.

Mute the odd person who gets a hardon from getting a double kill at level 1, the game's fine.

WolfBV4/5/2015, 6:33:25 PM1 votes

Try out champs like Annie, Draven and Warwick. Usually AP Warwick. They're all really fun.

Levyathyn4/6/2015, 7:20:33 AM1 votes

Add me. I don't play too much, too often, but if you're on I'll invite you, and our group of at least three can do whatever the shit we want.
