seen morde mid more than i've seen ahri anivia orianna malzha cassio syndra / all mages mid past 3 months

Technically Ekko and LB are mages, they're just assassins as well. Similar to Ahri.

Mages dominate Mid because Assassins can no longer kill the highest priority target any longer thanks in part to how strong Supports are now. They can't kill the Tanks, they can't kill the Bot lane, generally the Jungle is a tank, generally the top is a tank so who can they really kill? The mages mid? Sure, until teamfights when they too have the help of supports plus their own defensive mechanisms and the damage a AD can output mid-late.

So why pick a assassin unless you think you can massively snowball a win early AF.

To be fair though, League Analytics as Talon and Kat as a Tier 1, Zed as a Tier 2, and Yas and Fizz as a Tier 3 Mid laners currently in Plat+
