What are the conditions for winning a game? (5v5 Normal and Ranked)

CominTowardsYa··1 votes·1,887 views

I would like to ask the community this question because it seems that the conditions for winning a game are subjective and different depending upon who you ask.

This annoys me, because I hear from people on this subject that tell me that the conditions for winning a game are when players decide to end the game.

I also have heard the conditions for winning a game is getting Dragon and Baron.

These are not the conditions for winning a game, right?

I need to understand if this community understands what the word condition means, and if they understand that a game design is not subjective, or at least I don't think it is.

Destroying the opposing nexus is the goal, not a condition.

CominTowardsYa1 votes

So destroying the nexus is not the condition for winning the match? Is the goal to win the game or destroy the nexus? Is the condition for winning and the goal of the game mutually exclusive?

BladeSteel2 votes

Nope. Ive won games where the enemy destroyed our nexus and lost games where we destroyed theirs. It happens.

CominTowardsYa1 votes

Doesn't make sense. How?

BladeSteel2 votes

If you don’t know how why should I tell you? Evidently you don’t know enough about the game if you don’t know something as simple as that.

CominTowardsYa1 votes

Here we go again, you have trouble answering simple questions. This isn't hard, how did you win without destroying the nexus?

BladeSteel1 votes

Go research it. Think for yourself. I/we don’t need to give you all the answers.

CominTowardsYa1 votes

I will let you go research it, then bring me the answer. How does that sound? You made the claim without any proof, and the burden of proof is on the one who makes the claim. As the saying goes, "Put up or shut up."

BladeSteel1 votes

Nope don’t have to. If your teachers just gave you all the proof in school for everything, how did you learn? Did you never research for yourself? Or did you always just blindly follow what people say.

You’re posts have always been trolly. Stop trolling and think for yourself.

I don't even understand this question. What? The goal, the point where the game ends, is when you destroy the enemy nexus or make them surrender. If you mean the term "win conditions", you're confused about what that means. That's what will do the most to help your team win the game in that specific match. Maybe your team is all early game, and your win condition is stomping at least 2 lanes and pushing the lead you get off that, or maybe your team is great at sieging and baron is your win condition because you want to scale up and siege with baron to have the best chance at winning.

But if that's not what you're confused about I have no fuckin clue what you're asking

Let me rephrase the question so it is simpler.

The game has a built-in condition for winning a match in 5v5 Summoner's Rift. What is it? Here is a hint. You learn this when you first start playing in the tutorial vs bots.

There is one condition for winning a match, the game clearly tells you this.

You're limiting the use of the word "condition" too much, when people say "we win when we take baron" it's not saying "the second we take baron, the game is over and we have 'won' the game". It's saying "that's what we need to have the best chance to win the game".

Here's a clarification question. Try and make your same point without using the word "condition". What do people tell you causes the win?

Everyone knows the game is officially a victory when you take the enemy nexus by force or by forfeit. Where do you hear people dispute that?

depends on what your comp is, what enemy team comp is, what drakes are spawning.

really simple one, if you're playing rammus or hecarim, the cloud drake as it currently works (move speed) is a win condition. not quite so much for other champions. this could be expanded for the entire roster but i cba, most traditional supports have their win condition tied to keeping their carry alive, some mid laners need 2 blues to win, top lane might need 3 turret plates as a win condition. one comp vs another might need baron to end, you aren't siegeing an anivia or ziggs without baron for instance.

CominTowardsYa1 votes

So if you take the Drake and not the Nexus, you win the match?

no, the drake and sundry make it easier to win the match.

Objectives, plain and simple. All the pentakills in the universe doesn't mean shit if you piss away even 50 second death counters flapping your mastery dick at your own allies.

More importantly, not allowing the enemy to take any objectives. Defense, and I don't mean defense as an waggling back and forth while they unconditionally take one tower after another without contest. I mean hitting them hard so they back the fuck off.

AOE mages are great at defense; assassins and ADCs, especially single target ones, are not. Guess what entire divisions are full of?

Oh yeah, there's also diversionary tactics, luring the enemy team to one side of the map so they leave an objective open on the other. There are thousands of elements, situations and tactics to consider that no one ever thinks about. They just bitch about how all the champions are "literally cancer" because their tactical acumen would allow even the minions to run circles around them in a battle of wits until the heat death of the universe.

It is all important stuff I know. The questions is: What is the condition for winning a match? The game has a specific condition which is the purpose of the game.

Destroying the enemy Nexus or getting the enemy team to succumb to ultimate despair. The former is absolute, don't rely on the latter.

What is there to not understand? Or has the community fallen THAT FUCKING FAR?

CominTowardsYa1 votes

That is exactly what I am talking about. The community doesn't understand or doesn't want to admit simple basic truths about the game.

you are correct in that winning is subjective. examples of "winning" are:

actually destroying the nexus brutally destroy one team until they surrender getting most if not every dragon before elder (and getting elder) getting baron

CominTowardsYa1 votes

Winning is destroying the Nexus, yes. The enemy team ffing causes the nexus to explode and thus a win, so ffing is the same as destroying the nexus because the nexus explodes. Getting all the dragons and Baron "CAN" help you win, by giving buffs and the advantage, but it doesn't win the game because they are not the Nexus. We can talk strats all day and go back and forth on it, not a big deal I can do this all day, but the point of this is to get everyone to see the game's built in condition for winning a match, which is destroy the nexus, nothing else.

Also my other point here is that winning is fun vs losing.

I will agree with you that winning can also be subjective to each person, but I am not asking the subjective opinion on what people consider winning to be, I am asking the actual hard condition of a win in a match of 5v5 summoner's Rift.

winning is only fun to those who play to win (which is like 90% of the players). i am not one of those people.

CominTowardsYa1 votes

Well I play to win and the game has one final objective, which is to win, like in any sport, which this game considers itself a competitive e-sport, so you are possibly playing the wrong game or have the wrong mindset for success in League.

yes but what sets league apart from other sports is league is brimming with toxic. other sports are not like that. no matter the out come, win or lose, both teams will still celebrate and be good sports about it. you don't see them harassing the other team or getting angry over bad plays. that is what is really means to be a sport. to have fun regardless of the outcome.

If I'm not mistaken, you use of the word "condition" in this context would make it a verb, in which case we are looking to define condition as follows;

Condition verb

  1. Have a significant influence on or determine (the manner or outcome of something).
  2. Bring (something) into the desired state for use.

Between the two definitions for "Condition" as a verb, the most relevant would be the first; to have a significant influence on, or determine.

Considering that, we can reasonably conclude that, in the context you've used the phrase, a "win condition" is something that would lead to a victory(for example, securing Baron buff to siege the enemy), not necessarily being the final act of a victory (which, in this case, would be destroying the nexus).

CominTowardsYa1 votes

In this case I will use it in the context as intended to avoid any confusion or misinterpretation.

Condition means: what one thing must happen to achieve a win end state in a match 5v5 Summoner's Rift.

I think you know what I meant but are dancing with words here. I apologize if there was a lack of clarity in my chosen grammar and prose.

Could you please provide a link to the dictionary that definition came from? Can't seem to find it myself.
