recent reworks are destroying off-meta builds

From attack speed orianna to Titanic hydra AD Cho'Gath, off-meta builds can be a fun way to bring variety to the game. I myself would've never gotten into the game if it weren't for the variety LoL champions provide; the game would get too boring for me without that exploration. Sadly, due to recent mini-reworks on items and champions, roles are getting more and more solidified;

Cho'gaths rework is a massive nerf on AD/jgl Cho'Gath, making it nearly unplayable (especially in the lower levels, due to mana issues) the Ancient Coins rework is a nerf to stealth supports; since it no longer gives that lane sustain in the form of health regen, and also shows your location when grabbing coins, it is alot harder and less effective to play stuff like Evelynn support. Zeke's Harbringers rework completely destroyed Evelynn support, as there are no more upsides to it; her ult doesn't have that short of a cooldown, and her other cooldowns don't affect Zeke's anymore.

I know sometimes items/champions feel like they need some minor tweaks, but I ask you, keep the off-meta lovers in mind; an ability doesn't have to feel impactful in a champions main role in order to add to the gameplay.

Has one of your builds ever been wrecked by a rework? Leave a comment about what it was and how it was wrecked below!

Galio used to be a really good support. Guess who's not a good support anymore.

It was so fun. Then they reworked him into whatever the fuck he is now.

I can't think of anything...

I can still go AP Varus, full AP Janna, Armor penetration Garen, AP Nasus, AP Nautilus, AP Warwick. I still think if you were to go AD Cho'Gath it would work out and the rest seems to be just item changes.

The new Zeke's Herald may have changed but it also enabled a lot more different builds like support Udyr. Coin changed but I don't think the change would break support Evelynn. If your enemies are smart they will now that you're in lane getting coins regardless because you need experience and gold.

The lack of Regen-Heimerdinger makes me sad sometimes. When they changed Banner first of all to no longer include AP was the first step. It used to be a case that with masteries and a bead, you could have 50 HP5 by like level 4 or 5 so never really needed potions again. Banner, Zz'rot, spirit visage and yes, even Ohmwrecker was viable with it.

But alas, he just has movement speed near turrets now, which doesn't even scale and has no HP5 at all. He's just a mage and I haven't beem able to work out how to build him since.

Also makes jgl Heimer weaker.

  1. Jungle Cho'Gath has a 57% win rate in Plat+ elo.

  2. You shouldn't be playing Evelynn support anyways. It makes absolutely zero sense as she doesn't have any CC/utility nor does she have any poke.

Yeah well Evelynn support isn't just off meta. It's trolling. Quit doing it.

That might be a tall order depending on how "off" and off-meta build actually is.

For one thing, until today, I have never heard of Eve support, much less a "Stealth" support. It would be difficult for Riot to not step on such builds unless they were well known. (Speaking of well know, let's remind Rito that AP Shaco was a thing)

And then for certain champs like Cho'gath. (Though I thinking more Bruiser esk champs) they could have a variety of builds. In which case, it could make it impossible to support the champ without making one of those builds give.

But at the Very least, the more recent reworks isn't as bad as Malz, where they tried to preserve the spirit of his AD build by working it into his AP build, and winding up with something completely unrecognizable.

I wasm just naming examples I've had problems with myself. I must agree that the Malzahar rework was a total bust, and I would say the same for the Galio rework; I used to main Galio, now he's one of my least played champions. He simply no longer suits my style of play since the rework.
