Renekton or Illaoi

Ok. I am well, currently ranked the worst player in NA. And I want to get better. I want a really good top laner. And I have wittled down the list of top laners, to these two, Renekton and Illaoi . I like them because they can pretty much carry teams, they are pretty simple to play, they are super tanky, and that I liked them. But I can't decide which one. So if you guys would, can you please help me choose one. And don't give those responses like go kill yourself, or you suck, I just want your honest opinion on what top laner would be better to choose and WHY.

Depends on your opponents. If you're facing hawt grills then illaoi, if you're facing dudes like darius or nasus then renek.

Both are respectable champions, especially where you're at. In turn, it doesn't matter who you play, as long as you know how to play that champion. It's just practicing a specific champion, learning power spikes, and output potential.

Renekton all the way. Easy champion, easy combo, destroy lane and scale hard into mid game. Late game is a pretty bumpy but you're still far from useless.

Renekton is probably in a better spot. If you're in bronze it won't matter much, just start to learn the ins and outs. I like the concept of Illaoi more.

I'm assuming you are posting this because you are looking to "climb" the ranking ladder, and become a better player. One of the first things you can do to become a better player is to learn how to play your lane. The two most basic aspects of laning are cs'ing and trading. (Obviously the game is more than laning phase, but teamfighting is easier when you come out of lane strong.) Renekton is good at both of those things. ** These are the reasons I recommend learning Renekton: **

First, his abilities are very simple. No skill shots, straight-forward combos, very few "if this, then this" scenarios. The most basic combo is E-in>aa>W>aa>Q>aa>E-away.
Second, using his abilities to farm cs is effective. You want to use your AA's on minions to build fury, then weave in spells to damage the enemy laner. All of his spells are instant-casts (except his ulti, but that's only a .25s cast if I remember correctly).
Third, his trading is very strong, and has specific moments of power, specifically when his Fury is built up. (This can be counter-intuitive, because your lane opponent should know when you're looking to fight, but that's not always bad.)
Fourth, his build can be adaptable. Losing the lane? Build tanky. Your CC and high base damage will help you be beneficial to the team. Winning hard? Build a damage item to "win-harder" but then I still strongly recommend building some tank items. He scales well with damage.
Fifth, using his E can be useful as an escape from ganks. The most common thing to do is E through the person ganking, then E again towards your own tower to put more distance between you and your laner. And you have your ulti as an "oh-crap I'm about to die" hp steroid to save from ganks as well. This can help prevent you from feeding the enemy team.
Sixth, Renekton has many how-to-play guides out from many Renekton-only high ranked players. They teach you the basics of how to play him, then some tips and tricks as well. I would recommend looking up SoloRenektonOnly's guide.
