Stealth Stutter.

Alright. Imagine you're playing Garen low gold high silver, when suddenly, you decide to towerdive an Akali, not an entirely stupid idea, you've got a tf nearby, and Akali is your Villain. You Q to get in close and silence her. WHILE SILENCED Akali activates her W and drops her smoke thing. No big deal. Spin to win. So you start spinning, Akali appears visible for a brief flash of time and gets stunned by a TF gold card. You hit her with an auto, putting her at 1/4 health, and activate your ult. Dropping a massive sword of DEMACIAN JUSTICE on this Villain, supposed to be doing true damage. Garen does the animation. He yells his epic line. And Akali randomly becomes invisible between your activation and execution of the ult, and the ult's damage being applied. Your ult does not hit Akali. Akali takes no damage from the ult. You've eaten four turret shots by now, you can probably manage to eat two more and escape by the time you've activated your ult the first time. You have to Recast your ult, the animations, the everything, in order to kill Akali. You race furiously to get out of turret range, popping your W to reduce incoming damage after taking a fifth turret shot, get to the edge, and are killed for ten missing health.

I don't mind the dying bit. It was a norm, they forfeited later anyway. But it's hilarious that becoming invisible made Akali immune to damage that was already being applied. Becoming invisible made Akali capable of ignoring a massive gold sword falling from the sky to murder her. So it's good to know that I'd be able to eat a bullets but be okay because I covered the eyes of the guy shooting me in the face. It prolly doesn't happen to often, but it was so unsatisfying at the time. Invisibility does not have any good counterplay at all still. Not being able to target enemies that are there is stupid. Being able to ignore damage that has been initiated is stupid. Being able to activate a smoke cloud ABILITY whilst silenced is stupid.

Akali has a small delay on her shroud, so I'm guessing she actually already was placing it when you silenced her, which doesn't cancel abilities while being used, except certain ones like katarina R or malz R. The only champ who can ult while silenced is Tryndamere (which I don't understand in the least).

Garen's ult is sort of weird when it comes to those things. For example, half the time someone flashes when I ult, it kills them, the other half it cancels the ult, so I don't really know why the ult didn't kill Akali.

It's a question of vision. If they move outside of your vision during the cast time, Garen's ult will not go off.

Since Akali's shroud constantly recreates invisibility for herself, it essentially cancels the ult cast each time. This is a standard mechanic of spell casting I believe, at least for targeted spells.

Her going invisible just cancelled the animation. A lot of abilities' animations are cancelled if they lose sight of their target.
