@Riot, can we get some context on the Sona changes in the works?

This Sona main is in need of info.

:^(

I'm sure there is a way we can make Sona interactive AND keep her aura's in place.

EDIT : I mean, can we know what you guys are gonna do? It's been announced that you guys are making changes for a while but we still don't know anything about these changes. I may have used "context" wrong.

I want Sona's AP ratios to remain high enough for her to be viable mid. That's all i ask. Riot can tweak whatever else they want with her. I've never considered her as a support and I never will. I believe her place is as a highly AP fueled, team-based utility mage, and I believe she does better supporting with it than a support Sona will ever do with limited gold income and statistically weak itemization.

I'm so with you on this, I love mid sona. Since her rework she's never been good as a 'traditional support' and has always had better (and more fun) play as a secondary/pseudo APC since her auras all scale better with AP, rather than average support items like item 3222 or item 3190 .

Either build her as a full AP mage or go for a semi support build (which I find to have a lot of power with utility) like

item 1334 /item 1314 /item 1309 , item 2049 item 3174 item 3050 item 3089 item 3100

While mid lane Sona is pretty fun, the first priority should be on her main supporting role.

Quite frankly, I love Sona because I love the idea of an AOE buff support buffing her allies with her musical auras. I don't think she should be the main APC threat though.

I agree with you in a way. A team that decides to send a Sona mid is a team that wants early mid-lane pressure, mid game safety, and late game carries to be hypercarries, and ideally has another source of high magic damage, like a Diana jungle or a Ryze top for instance. AP Sona herself doesn't have the terrifying AoE damage presence of Brand or Anivia, or the CC of Orianna. She does the opposite just as efficiently though, it's her W and E that are the true late game gamechangers. She has an almost on-demand Locket Shield Active not counting the heal, and basically Sivir's ultimate. Her pokes are barely enough to kill an ADC or a non-tanky mage, even if they're frequent, but that damage is something any other good AP mid can do.

Seriously the only things I'd change about Sona, is to give a tiny AoE (and i really mean just large enough to hit three clumped minions) to her Q shots, not her Powerchord, or the AA enhance. Raise the E's base MS buff (because it's ridiculously low and scales up by 1%MS/spell level if i remember right?) in exchange for slightly lower AP scaling, and increase Powerchords W and E's effects with more AP.

As far as damage goes, her Powerchord and Q damage can't be increased willy-nilly. Give her the old 100% scaling back and she just stomps way too hard early game, both as support and as mage. What COULD be done, is to increase the AP scaling of Powerchord's damage over her levels as well as it's base.

To me it seems unlikely that mid lane Sona will get worse, it might not get much better though.

In order to make mid Sona worse she'd need to take nerfs to her damage, which I doubt Riot would do considering she's not exactly good right now.
