My opinion on Varus change/nerf (Patch 7.5)

Just a quick warning, I am a very Salty Varus main, so things will be said. It will be directed towards the company, not the people, as they are humans too. If you don't like it feel free to look away

So if you searched up to see what the next patch would be, what the buffs news and changes would be. You would see that fizz is getting a fix/nerf. Everyone should be joyful about that as no one likes the fish (Even the 16/4 kda Fizz mains hate their champ in a good way) LeBlanc nerfs, Edge of Night nerfs which is understandable because it is strong right jow, and Bork changes. These seem like the perfect thing to most players as these were the main problems, but there's one that sticks out. For most people this would be a joy, but for me it's upsetting.

Varus is getting a direct change/nerf to his Piercing Arrow (Q) and here are the changes:

•Piercing Arrow (Q): Cooldown increased to 20/18/16/14/12 from 16/14/12/10/8 Total AD ratio on Maximum Damage decreased to 150% from 165% Cooldown is now decreased by 4 seconds (affected by CDR) if the arrow detonates Blight stacks from at least one enemy champion

As we can clearly see its another mini rework to him, but to his Q this time.

"Cooldown increased to 20/18/16/14/12 from 16/14/12/10/8"

Honestly, I don't see why this would be nerfed. If you wanted it to have Cooldown increase, just revert the Cooldown before cast. It literally takes 4-5 seconds to shoot the damn arrow so taking that away would make perfect sense

"Total AD ratio on Maximum Damage decreased to 150% from 165%"

Now this I understand. When lethality was in its prime, Varus would do 400 damage per shot on his 4-5 second Cooldown on max rank (varies between CDR as well) giving the slight damage decrease won't kill him, just make him weaker early game but still strong mid/late

"Cooldown is now decreased by 4 seconds (affected by CDR) if the arrow detonates Blight stacks from at least one enemy champion"

Now this one I see being a little tricky to understand, but it doesn't give us much information yet. There's a few questions I have to ask about it.

•Does it have to be all 3 stacks on the champion or just one? •If yes above, would it go: -1 stack= 1 second cd reduction -2 stacks= 2 second cd reduction -3 stacks" 4 second cd reaction *If no that'll answer my question

•Will it reduce the Cooldown if say it passes through 2 champs with Max Blight stacks? So like if it hit 2 champs with Max Blight will it be 8 seconds cd reduction?

What this change does, is bring back auto attack Varus, which wasn't as good, but strong in the right hands.

Alright, now that we've gone through all of that, rant time:

I don't understand why riot is touching Varus in hia prime. Constant times many people have asked for nerfs on certain champs (cough cough insert Irelia nerf joke here) and they don't get touched at all, left to be strong and a top tier for their lane, but Varus. The champion that had not been playing at all in the 2 seasons I played League (in the bottom lane) for the lcs, gets a change that'll throw people off. It's insane honestly, is it because everyone plays him? Remember Riot, backing world's all we saw was Ezreal, Cait, and Jhin. Those 3 champs. Yet you couldn't understand that this made Worlds boring to watch. I was excited to see how far NA would get, but game after game of the same bot lane over and over again makes your game feel.... bland. Now I'm no pro, I'm stuck in Silver 4 because I'm bad, but I have the brain to understand the hat there's something not right. You need to listen to the people, and if people say nerf Varus do so, but you don't nerf the Ziggs tower execute, The Xin slow, forcing you to either fight him or run and hope to live, Annie, etc.

There's more to the game than nerf ing the champ that had his best moments iN a short amount of time. But hey, that's just a 200K lvl 7 mastery Varus player who grinned 75% of that in season 5 and 6 alone.

100% Correct. Riot needs to focus champions that are broken. Not those who are already balanced.

Jhin in my opinion is pretty OP since I started to play LoL, still no nerf. But Varus is balanced and not OP. Still they decide to nerf Varus.

Katarina is OP. They nerfed her. WOW 2 Magic Resist less. Good Job

There is a lot wroung about this.

Why is ziggs untouched? I have no idea why no one ever focuses on him? His ability to take down towers is also off concern because of how much effect pressure has on games in this season.

Why nerf varus when there are other adcs like jhin or Cait which everyone plays in rank that are op as hell

Its the day the nerf's roll out.

Jhin: This "Nerf" is an indirect Keystone Nerf not to Jhin himself. I think this was a decent thing, just because it doesn't really effect the burst damage Jhin is famous for. Lethality builds are still viable maybe without item 3814 as the first or 2nd item since (they nerfed the shit out of this item) Other then that Players that like Jhin for what he is will still play Jhin!

Miss Fortune: I knew the day lethality went live and full Leth MF videos started popping up on YouTube that her boost would be short lived.

Varus: poor, poor, Varus.

  • The Keystone nerf absolutely screwed up his optimum build path. The damage reduction to his Q was expected, the damage it caused without blight is a bit insane, so no problem with that nerf.

  • Now the CDR changes on the other hand, IMHO will knock Varus back to the "no one plays" bracket. it removes his trade potential greatly, I no longer feel like lethality builds are viable for him at all. Forcing him to take more attack speed instead of damage. Attack speed means Crit builds, RIP Lethality Varus.

  • Without his ult to start EVERY team fight his ability to deal damage in them is reduced to dog poo. (that's if it lands) Since the blight takes so long to spread to others, most champs get out before Varus even has a chance to trigger the blight. Now they add a longer CD on the ability used to trigger it most! It makes no sense.

  • Riot ABSOLUTLY needs to clarify when exactly your getting reduced when Q actually bursts the Blight. I'm 100% confused.

  • I honestly am so confused on what to build on him that I don't even want to play him anymore. He was one of the first champs I hit mastery 5 with to get the fancy emote.... sad day. Guess ill have to wait to see what the upper tiers do to get a better idea of what would work for me.

Alas as always instead of buffing weaker ADCs to even the class pool, they nerf the ones doing well (because there are less ADCs doing well then there are doing poorly) Besides Graves anyways.... but hes somewhere in the jungle behind a bush smoking a cigar with Gromp, since Riot wont give him one in Public.

I still find varus to be effective as a more standard ad carry with runann's into new botrk and fervor or battle, sort of like old varus before lethality exist

As a lvl 7 Varus Main with almost 400k mastery and grinded <90% of my games in s6, I totally agree with you in every statement you said. Riot really should reconsider his nerfs and bring him back from this dirt he got thrown in.
