The Plat Experience

Look at this picture and what do you see?

I see team, holding back a player that is trying to rank up, yet that player cant do anything at all to change the outcome of this game. This whole game since patch 7.22 was introduced has been RNG on who wins. The stomp or be stomped meta. The 1 death per minute is completely normal now meta. The 3 autos from Irelia level one does 90% of your health meta. On this account, I have counted the number of times I have lost lane, which is 11 times. The total number of losses I have are 43 as I am writing this post. What in the actual hell am I supposed to do to carry games today? Seems like whenever im somewhat decently fed top with 3/0 kills, someone on the enemy team is 7/0 already. Seriously, what is the strategy behind winning today? Because I seriously have been trying everything to find it since season 8 started and have yet to find anything. The only strategy that somewhat works is to completely dominate your lane and roam, which thats not always possible to do if the enemy laner is playing extremely passive or if youre getting ganked 24/7. A few games ago, I got ganked 13 times in 16 minutes, not exaggerating either, I counted 13 times where I got ganked while my jungler ganked twice.

This game is getting wack, and if season 9 changes nothing the first few months, then im truly gone from this game and am just gonna focus fully on college and work instead.

I remember a year or two ago, people used to say 'all games are winnable so long as you carry'. Funny how people don't dare to say that anymore, because they've realized how utterly cretinous a statement it is.

In my opinion it's more the matchmaking than the game itself. The algorithm is complete trash. Often I check teams before game starts and I can say who will win and who will lose. But sometimes even a good algorithm couldn't help. It's the stupidity of the players itself. The Algorithm sorts after your overall winrate/games played/Elo. So I have 4 Plat 1-2 Teammates in my game with 49%-52% wr. Well, WOULD BE OK if they would play their normal champions. But NO.... Ofcourse they have to play and try new ones every game. "Oh there is a dude in my game with 50% overall winrate but playing an Ezrael with 18 games 26% winrate. Hmmmm I AM CURIOUS WHO WILL WIN BOTLANE!!"

Or these people who have 2-3 games on EVERY champion. Then they lose lane vs skilled mains and start to blame their jungler. "OH WEY! I never expected that the 3 games Cassio would lose against that 169 games Kassadin otp!!"

Awesome game experience!

You have won 44 out of your last 80 ranked games, according to your op.gg. That's a 55% winrate. So overall you're still climbing. Maybe because you play against better players now it's harder to carry a team that doesn't play too well.

Do keep in mind that it's pretty hard to carry games with Jayce unless you're really wrecking lane to the point that they're inting, or if you're very pro-active and spreading your dominance across the map, though again, early on. Ideally though, you shouldn't have to.

I've only made it to silver 1 so far, so feel free to not take this to heart (I kind of expect rank shame otherwise). It's fine if you want to climb as Jayce, that's fine, but if you do, you'll want to learn how to maximize his early game power so you can beat more than your lane opponent. or hope to be paired exclusively with competent players.

Learn to jungle, don’t farm creeps. Profit.

I see a Jayce who got fed in lane, snowballed into a splitpush, and got shutdown a few times. He probably got a couple turrets, likely outers. Meanwhile, the enemy team won lane and snowballed, catching out his teammates and then diving the others.

Jayce works best when generally alone in a side lane, denying its farm to the enemy team while getting it all himself and forcing them to send two champs to stop him. However, he can also roam from to win short skirmishes with well-placed shockblasts and all-ins, reset, and resume splitpush near the next objective. Successful roams get his team ahead, and every assist he earns during each one is roughly a wave of gold.

Try to use your lead to win map control. Push in the enemy top laner during lane phase, drop a deep ward, and wait for the enemy jungler to show on it. Ping for your jungler to grab the free drake. Alternatively, invade the enemy jungle with your jungler when a buff comes up on your ward. Let your jungler take it and return to lane. If you take your turret, laneswap and bully their bot-lane while yours farms freely against your under-fed opponent.

There’s so much you can do with a fed Jayce that you should at least practice it when you can’t carry.

I see a team who got steamrolled by a Vladimir because they had no frontline and minimal CC, after failing to respect the early Xin Zhao ganks. Which role is traditionally most relied upon to be a frontline and bring lockdown? Look at how long you managed to drag out the game - 27 minutes. Imagine if you were a tank who could lock down Vladimir while your carries dealt with him, or peel off Xin. The closest thing they have to a tankbuster is Urgot, but you have a Sona to help counter him.

Typical solo queue, not just plat and not just bad play. It’s all a lack of coordination.

The only way I've found to carry in this season is to spam Talon and first beat my laner. Rush mobi boots and a lethality item. Then roam 24/7 , if they have a weaker/squishier jg, I invade their jg, keep it warded and kill them while they're doing their buffs. That way it keeps the whole enemy team down. Sure it's not guaranteed but it worked out, had a 62% winrate over 300 games on talon. I think the trick is just pick anyone who's really bursty and constantly be thirsty

Don't forget guys, it's preseason too. On your team, enemy team, etc, clowns everywhere, you're just more likely to remember those on your own team.

I moved from top lane because of this. I play support now because that way I have some control over my idiot adc dying, i.e make sure they dont die by spamming heals, or I play mid lane, because if you are good mechanically, its significantly easier to carry from the mid lane compared to the jg. The main reasons are the fact that you can get yourself ahead by winning lane and setting ur opponent behind. As you are ahead you can just shove the wave on and help your jg gank other lanes, which not only improves their ganks, but nearly guarantees a kill. And in most cases you dont get a team dumb enough to blow a 15 kill lead, which is surprisingly easy to get if you play cut and dry.

This is the experience everywhere, not just in plat, and it always has been. Of course, there are plenty of anecdotal cases where people will point out the times they remember a single champion solo 1v5ing and carrying their struggling team to victory. But this is a team game and having a team that (minus you) adds up to a KD of 6/30 probably shouldn't win.

It's the uncomfortable truth of multiplayer games, and as painful as it is at times, would feel even worse for the team that is extremely far ahead to lose to a single fed champion.

The matchmaking system is broken right now, as it always is right before the season begins. I'm currently getting 10-12 points for a win and losing 22-24 points for a loss - it makes no sense. I'm hoping that this will be fixed when the season starts, but only time will tell.
