I've tried to do it as Annie, very few times succeeding. The biggest problem is that despite her damage, if her team is too dead in the water, she can only pull through the muck by so much. Originally wanted to suggest her too, but then I recalled my last Annie game. 23/9/10, nuking those I came across, but still lost. Team had next to no sustain or potent enough damage to aid in team fights properly, so they eventually pushed to end.

It would probably help more to learn two roles instead of trying to one-trick one champion in multiple lanes regardless of comp. That said, karma, zyra, veigar, brand, anivia, lux and vel'koz can all be played mid/support with carry potential.

Keep in mind that playing a mage support requires a very different playstyle and build path from playing them mid, i see way too many people play a mage support, burn all their mana by lv2, never buy sightstone or eye of the watchers and ignore the existence of the ADC.

I know the role, support first mage second. lane phase is still about getting ADC fed and peeling in teamfights

Ryze Ryze Ryze Ryze Ryze all you need to play to get to challenjour.

Is he actually worth it for solo que though?

A good Ryze is scary as hell. Go for it.

Alternatively for mid and top you got Cassiopeia. Her level 2 powerspike is a sure pot use, maybe even a summoner or even a kill if your enemy doesn't respect your Q+E damage.

He's strong enough to be worth it. Only downside is your opportunities for your ult may somewhat diminish if you ever hope to make team based tactical moves with it. That aside, he's super strong.

Thats what I thought, it's basically just a 1 man gank/escape tool

Is Syndra not worthy of this list?

All you need is good positioning and mechanics and you can carry with any mage in the late game.
