Lux Mini Rework
Hey there, I am a resident Lux main and I just wanted to try to get in contact with Riot and the community to voice an opinion of mine, and hear all of yours. I am likely a minority in this opinion, but I really like Lux and I wish she could see play in the LCS or at least ever be good in solo queue. I feel however that the issue isn't that her kit needs more damage. Instead I think she needs more mechanical potential or additional choices in her kit. Most players simply hate Lux and group her with a champion like Annie (though they behave nothing alike) in saying the champion is "braindead" and "simple." Even still Annie is a very good champ that has a very specific and efficent role in a team. Yet I feel Lux plays a lot more like Xerath, who receives nearly universal approval in the community.
So what's the point? Lux needs some additional complexity to set her apart from other champions. Being a mage/support hybrid is awesome, but because she can barely function as a support it almost seems like a waste. I feel her kit needs to be oriented towards the mid lane so she can see a bit more play. This isn't to say that the recent buffs were not appreciated. I really enjoy the fact that these reward a mechanical Lux player, but still she does not feel on par with other mid laners.
Now i will admit, buffing a champion and/or giving a champion more options threatens making it overpowered. That's not what I want, although it is often a side effect of reworking a champion. Likewise I understand buffing her Q and her E could put her lane phase overboard and make her very un-fun to play against. So I'd argue that the changes should focus on her Passive, her W, or her mid to late game. An interesting comparison for Lux is Jhin, which debatably could be seen as her AD counterpart. Jhin has a snare, an ability that is very good for harassing in lane, a long range ultimate, and a passive that increases his auto-attack damage. Jhin is a convenient parallel to Lux. Why is Jhin so much more viable than Lux in my opinion? Two things, his passive gives him movement speed, and he has 4 shots on his ult instead of one. Before you ask, no I'm not asking for Lux to have 4 Ultimates. But the point is that Jhin has some features that make him more useful than Lux. His movement speed on his fourth shot, allows him to survive in teamfights and get out of them too. This also really helps his lane and his early pressure. I think that Lux could benefit from a speed up in her kit, be it procing her passive of using her W. Now to the ult, what is Lux's problem? You can flash her ultimate. It's actually very easy. Most mechanical players can also dodge it, although its possible to make it nearly undodgable. Regardless, here's the idea. If Lux ults in a teamfight and the other team steps aside... you're down an ability. If Jhin misses his first shot, he has 3 to go. Xerath's ult, even at first level, still has 2 to go. Rumble's ult at the very least would zone the team of that location. Lux's ult is very easily countered (because it is just a ton of inconsistent damage) and not nearly as versatile and powerful as other mage ultimates (i.e. Syndra, Ahri, Annie, Viktor). This is the primary issue with Lux and I do think it is possible to be fixed, but I still believe that this lies in her kit. Her kit needs to compensate for having a less powerful ultimate.
Anyway, I hope my input gets to Riot and its considered when next they decide to touch Lux. I apologize for the long post, but I hope that proves that I have genuine interest in this subject and the balance of the game. I hope everyone has a wonderful day and good luck on the Rift.
