Will of the Ancients was removed because Vladimir was balanced entirely around it

But what's the difference between it and item 3152 ,tho?

These are Vladimir's core builds (source: op.gg) http://imgur.com/VDP9GEt

I can't help myself but I feel like Protobelt was designed specifically for Vlad, because:

  • Stats he wants to build are: Health, Ability power, Cooldown reduction = Stats Protobelt has
  • Active's cooldown seems like a window of power Vlad's opponents are supposed to play around, because it gives him the mobility he lacks (which would mean he still is a toxic design)
  • Almost noone other builds it, only Annie and champions that are already mobile enough (Ahri Ekko Leblanc Diana Fizz , maybe Lissandra and Galio) and thus gives them unnecessary power.

And he builds it EVERYTIME, so naturally he needs to be balanced around it.

This is why. WotA wasn't 'almost no one else'. It was straight no one else.

Idk, I'd built it on Zyra Malzahar Morgana Swain Karthus Cassiopeia, some people did so with Brand

I don't know which WotA your're refering to - but the one I remember was the GO TO for each and every Team that run a Double-AP-Comp (Top-Mid) since this granted 110AP and 40% Spellvamp for BOTH!

Additionally Taric and some others Supps could make great use of it as well since it was build out of gold-item for a long time.

Sure - after that, during the end of Season 3 they started screwing around with WotAs numbers and effects until it was finally in the spot of completely unviable with the exception of Vlad. But the original WotA was great situational Item for most Mages.

Mordekaiser was just as reliant on it as Vlad was back when it was around

at least others can use protobelt. the only champion that legit used will of the ancients was vlad, and occasionally kennen, which btw is also a champion who builds proto a LOT, almost always. just like elise. haven't seen a single game with an elise that didnt Build proto at some point.

sure, protobelt is very ideal to vlad, but it is to every ap champion if you can use it. ive seen people Build it on vel'koz before and it honestly is a lot stronger than people think, assuming you do know how to use it properly.

the reason why mobility champions like ekko fizz etc Build it because it helps them gapclose. You ult with a fizz from max range and it hits, use your E, but they are too far for your Q? no Problem, use protobelt for a mini-flash+ burst and your Problems are solved.

and the same goes to vlad, it is more for utility than for the stats, because when vlad gets his 3rd Q movement boost he Needs to get somewhat close to use it but the movement speed bonus is so short that he can legit only get 0.25 seconds to close up or else he will be too far away, and protobelt's dash helps with that issue. the reason why it is so good is because the item as a whole compliments the entirety of what we know as vlad, it gives him some extra burst for early, a lil bit mobility, a reliable but hard to use gapclose and decent stats.

BUT that does not mean it is Build for vlad alone, because it can be used by every ap champion for the stats, it is the active what decides which champions can utilize it.

He loves Protobelt, but it's not an item tailored to him. WotA was one of the couple of items that provided spell vamp, and he was required to take it to fulfill his archtype (Sustain). Without it, he didn't live up to his identity. Protobelt is nice, but there's lots of champions that always build an item. It's a great item, but it's not required to make his theme work. It just adds damage and tankiness, which you'll see lots of champs get like Fizz and Lissandra. It's no different than buying Rylai's on Cass or Lichbane on TF.

Rumble also likes that item mind you

As others have pointed out, because Protobelt is used by a handful of champions, whereas WotA was, literally, not used by ANYONE except Vlad.

wota was removed because double wota comps (think kennen top+vlad mid or vice versa) were fucking broken

it has very little to do with vlad by himself
