New Ryze, has some issues.

So I played Ryze yesterday and wanted to see how he changed. The skillshot Q is okay, but the range is decent, it actually doesn't seem to hit at it's max range where the graphic ends, it's about 10 - 15 range less, but not the end of the world. His E I think is fantastic and a great harassment and farming tool, which ryze arguably had less of before.

My real complaint is his passive. Because there isn't a single site that I've found that displays his passive description, I'll just comment on how it seemed to act in game.

So as everyone knows, at 5 stacks his spells get reduced cooldown by 4 seconds every time another ability is activated. The stacking mechanic is fine, it gates him from most teamfights in mid game in place of making him much stronger later on. However...his passive is only active for a few seconds..................

WHY does it only work for a few seconds!? You literally go from:

to this

and back to what feels like this

It is the worst feeling in a teamfight to play as Ryze and have his abilities suddenly slow down after you have just started dishing out damage. If you are poking at all, and happen to activate his passive before a fight starts, you are actually brought back down to slow paced for a few seconds before you can spam again. Inconsistency during a team fight is a remarkably difficult challenge.

Has anyone else experienced this? Or am I just losing it?

Agreed, I'm really never a fan of these "every X casts, something happens' as they force you to not cast when anticipating a fight. It's what makes Annies hold their stuns, what makes Kennens hate autoattacking to cs, and now makes Ryze have to stand around doing nothing. But it's even worse for Ryze than for the others as his charges can expire. At least Kennen/Annie can hold their mark/stun, Ryze loses his after a timeout.

Overall I like him, but feel like if they'd let his stacks decay one at a time I could have a lot better control over when my passive goes up, as well as not get punished for stacking my tear as vigorously as I should be doing.

Increased range/bounce range on his E would also help a bit.

But in particular changing his passive so that the stacks decay one at a time instead of disappearing all at once, would make him feel a lot more dynamic to play as and present a whole new level of control over how all-in you're being.

I'm a fan of everything in his passive EXCEPT how long it lasts. Maybe increase the passive duration if you are ulting?

I don't understand the point of having him ramp up, only to have to ramp up again 4 seconds later. It's not like Annie who can stun every 4 casts. It's more like Malzahar's minions, but suddenly they don't always get summoned, and then they don't always evolve. It severely cuts your damage down. (People are always surprised how much those voidlings do)

Those gifs.... so great. But yeah, I notice the same thing with his Q. You can't poke someone as they're walking away. I think the trick in a team fight is to have your 4th stack ready and then spam everything. Once you go through a full cycle all of your abilities should be back up after your passive procs, you can begin a normal rotation starting with Q and your ultimate should be back up once you get a decent amount of CDR. When you hit level 16 you have the potential to have your ultimate permanently available and activated if you want. Lvl 1 ultimate has a really high cooldown to be able to use it as often as we like.
