Hello fellow summoners !

I made a post about a new faction system that could be implemented in League of Legends !

At first, I wanted to post it here, but the boards allow a maximum of 4 attachements.

Head here to learn about it. Please give feedback and ideas !

Irony-free opening comment: a community version of this started a year ago. It's going strong, and you can come play anytime. We're about to start a new arc. Vote here for which factions you'd like to be featured next.

Hmm. A Factions system, you say. Where "winning factions could influence the lore in different ways (much like the Ionia versus Noxus rematch)"? That's interesting. So, for example, the storyline could play out based on how the factions do against one another? I found your suggestion of a scoreboard quite intriguing. It sounds like an easy-to-understand way to summarize the combined outcomes of many different matches. It sure would be great if something like that existed. ^_-

More seriously: I (obviously) support this concept. I think it's crazy to have a plot the main selling point of which is that it puts the player into the story (as a Summoner) and then not take advantage of that. In-universe, we're supposed to be fighting for the fates of nations on the Fields of Justice; why not let us do that?

There are a few points on which we disagree.

  • You seem to be proposing that faction choice is unrelated to Champion pool. Personally, I think that having faction-specific Champion lists is a big part of what makes Factions work: not only do the teams look more cohesive in-game, but it gives each faction different playstyles.
  • You also seem to be proposing that we just win points from winning Normals. The problem there is that, if we create (say) 10 faction-specific pools of players and try to figure out which faction has the most wins, we're going to end up with a huge tie, because win rates hover around 50% over a large number of matches/players. I think it's more interesting to have faction versus faction matches, so that (e.g.) how well a given faction's community figures out strategies for using their Champion list will influence odds of overall success.

But those are some great images, and I strongly support the basic idea you're expressing.

A community version of this type of game mode has been running for about a year. We're about to head into our next storyline.

You can vote here to decide which factions will be featured next. (We rotate through the factions to facilitate cohesive storylines and to make it easier to organize matches; generally, we have about four available per arc.)

You can read an overview of the storyline created by these matches here.

If you'd like to just dive right in, join the Factions chat and play a match. (Since we're in between arcs right now, all matches are unscored "intermission matches", but they're still fun.)

I think it falls under the category; too cool to be implemented

Hey guys OP here Thanks for all the support on this, if we keep it up we can get the POTD (post of the day)

I approve of all of this. I'll toot on Factions' horn a bit, since I joined them first. Its getting to the point where I'll jump into most any Factions match going on simply to chill and not worry so much about ragers. I have yet to meet anyone toxic in this community, which is a godsend.

Would you able to change Factions or join multiple?

I like the general concept, however, there is one thing I don't really like. Some champions, despite being "from" a certain region, do not have a City-State allegiance. They are what you'd call "free agents".

For example, Rammus. He was just random armadillo # 214532143 until he got zapped by some kind of wierd bolt of life magic in the Plague Jungles. Does he really have a city-state affiliation? Similarly, I think it's safe to assume that both Vayne and Lucian have "moved on" from their Demacian heritages. They would obviously still be willing to take part in events concerning their birthplaces, particularly since it, like them, stands for justice. But I can't say I would expect them to really have any sense of national pride. Another great point here would be Sivir. She, by all accounts, has no loyalty to anything beyond gold. How would she fit into any particular faction? Nami, Leona/Pant/Diana, the list goes on.

Bottom line, for this system to work, the affiliation of champions would have to be a lot more dynamic than it appears you propose in the other thread. You would have to build on the existing politics in the world, both to allow for the alliances in the Lore (Zaun/Noxus, Piltover/Bangle City), and also account for the champions that, while they may be from somewhere, don't really have a home in the political circles of Runeterra.

Riot making a League of Legends MMORPG would be pretty cool. You could pick from all the differenent countries and each one would have a "base" character that you can customize. All the champs would be important NPCs
