Vel' Koz was not inspired by the Eye of Sauron. Could you imagine how perfect it would be to have a black, jagged, wrought iron Vel' Koz with an eye of pure evil and fire? I would get nostalgia every time he ulted and it was like shining the light on Frodo in Return of the King.

As much as I love the idea of the Middle Earth theme, I feel the characteristics of the skin are too similar to the Scorched Earth series to make it its own skin. I based the design slightly off of Sauron's helmet to keep in theme with the idea but overall, I decided to make it part of the scorched earth series.

The true fans of the LotR series would become enraged if they made a skin based on the movie instead of the book.
Not that it isn't a good idea; I like it, but the trouble it would probably cause (specially with the fact that Vel'Koz is too new and people demand skins for older champs) would be too much to offset the benefits.
Plus, it would end up named as something like Scorched Earth instead of referencing Sauron.

Nox Aeternam1 votesLet's face it, if Riot wanted to go through the bother of purchasing licensure for champion skins, they would. Just look at the community. We're a mashup of probably a hundred different fandoms, and I know if Riot were to make a skin from one of mine (Cloud Strife Riven, perhaps?) I'd snatch it up instantly. I don't even own Riven. I hardly play top. I'd still buy it.
They're not going to do it, though. I will be shocked (pleasantly, of course) the day Riot announces their first licensed skin from a known franchise. It's sad, but hey, it just means we get to say our game is nothing but OC.

tl;dr, I'd love to see licensed skins such as this, but I'm cynical and doubt it'll ever happen.
