[Champion Concept] Daimon, The Twisted Puppeteer
Daimon The Twisted Puppeteer
Intro Okay, so, anyone who reads this will quickly realize that this champ is totally broken. I did that on purpose. I would really like some help nerfing him from this OP state to the point that he can actually be accepted as an in game champion. I would really have liked to post some of my concept art with this, but the intuos tablet yet eludes my ravenous philanges. Anyway, yeah, any ideas, comments, etc. are really needed and very appreciated. I will most likely be reposting a more final version of Daimon after taking into account the feedback I receive and colaborating with a few others. I will be pulling a majority of my feedback from the comments on this post, but anyone who really likes the concept and would like to be a part of the collaboration on the final champion concept can contact me by email. Also, if anyone would like to include me in any of their own projects can do the same. I am a talented artist, but I'm stuck on paper for the moment. As soon as I get my tablet I will make some Daimon art and anyone looking for an artist for hire on their project can email me as well. And if not, and you're just looking for a fifth, MCMasterFreshh pretty much always accept friend invites.
please don't spam my email or get upset if I reject a request, I still love you guys
Lore
Clinging to old ways in a self-proclaimed 'City of Progress' is exceptionally difficult, especially when caught in the center of a continent-wide war. However, before the war, there were still a handful of nostalgics to be found remaining in the busy city of Piltover.
One such man was a chidrens' toy-maker with a son of his own, Daimon. Though the world around them continued ever forward in its pursuit of progress, they shared a childlike fascination with the arts of puppetry and toy-making as well as a great respect for the knowledge around them both curret and inherited.
Though, as Daimon grew to realize the scope of the world around him, he saw a society that had no appreciatin for simplicity or respect for the past. A people moving endlessly on without a care for the beauty they had abandoned for steel. As his knowledge of the world grew, so too did his distaste for it, leading him to throw himself into his father's work. He toiled endlessly to create spectacular puppets using the common day's technology and applying it to the old methods learned from his father until he had revived a long forgotten art in a brutally sublime way.
Not long after the League had ceased the warfare in Valoran, the streets of Piltover were taken by storm with spectacular displays of Daimon's work. Puppets of all sorts and sizes captured the people's attention by force and committed massive acts of vandalism while Daimon, all the while disguised as just another marionette, looted the city's banks to fund his displays.
Seeing a way to further spread his message on the grand stage of the Fields of Justice, Daimon made his way to the Institue of War.
'Those who don't learn from the past...' - Daimon, The Twisted Puppeteer
Champion Overview Daimon is a high damage jungler/assassin also viable for top or mid lanes or even as an offensive support, although, his supporting power is weak because of the fact that he is so squishy.
Resource - Mana
**Passive** - Master Puppeteer - Basic abilities connect Daimon and target enemy champion or neutral monster by a puppet cord. This cord lasts 10 seconds and the duration is reset with each addition of a new cord. Hitting a strung enemy will provide the ability an extra effect or the basic attack extra damage per string. If Daimon lands a basc attack on an enemy with 3 strings, all of hs cooldowns are reset.
**Q - Garotte Wire -** Daimon fires a cord (skillshot) from his belt, pulling to first enemy or allied structure hit. Deals damage to enemies equal to Scale + (%AD) and slows Scale for 3 seconds.
-String - instead applies a 2 second stun on hit.
**W - Puppet Show -** Daimon swings a propelled razor puppet around himself, healing (%AP) for each enemy hit and causing bleeding damage equal to Scale + (%AP) over 3 seconds.
-String- Deals true damage to strung enemies equal to Scale + (%AP).
**E - Marionette -** Daimon fires a cord (skillshot) from his wrist, dealing damage equal to Scale + (%AD) and pulling first enemy hit.
-String- Bonus damage equal to (%AD).
**R - Star of the Show -** Daimon switches between a melee attack with his knife and a ranged attack with his puppets. Switch to Melee- increases movement speed and stuns .5 seconds next enemy hit with a basic attack. Switch to Ranged- increases movement speed and fears 1.0 seconds next enemy hit with a basic attack.
Notes
Mana is the obvious choice because he uses machinery and not his own physicality to cast abilities.
Now Master Puppeteer is actually how he manages to avoid damage, sustain health, and overall keep from being totally defenseless. An important thing about the passive is that it is a way to keep tabs on enemies, like looking at the direction of the light from thresh's lantern to see where he is, but at the same time, the strings do not grant vision. Of course, when used properly, it is also his key to dealing the massive damage.
The inspiration for Garotte Wire came from my personal favorite jungler, Amumu . This ability is to be used basically just like the mummy's Q. Zooming from camp to camp in the jungle gives great presence and mobility. Pulling to friendly wards, structures and placements gives both a great escape tool and an excellent way to outmaneuver enemies anywhere on the map. Additionally, once Daimon reaches the point of being that terrifyingly bursty assassin, his Q allows for excellent positioning because of the disabled enemy. So, basically, Q to initiate on target, target is slowed, Daimon can run a head of the target while using W for damage/heal, then with E get a third string and massive damage while also pulling them to wherever you want to be for after the fight, then, with the now 3x strung enemy, strike one auto for massive damage and finish with all reset cooldowns for either an escape or another chase. Using things like this also allow him to combat tankier champs or chmps with escapes (i.e. Renekton). Also, the idea behind the stun is that sure, it's a move to catch up, but Damon is supposed to be a scary assassin, so he stuns them with fear.
Puppet show is actually modeled after a champ I'm not very fond of, Warwick . But unlike Warwick's Q, this ability heals a flat amount for each enemy hit. It is his main early jungle sustain and gives him an edge in that taking out the more populated jungle camps is not only easier, but quicker and leaves him able to quickly heal up for taking on buff camps. In lane, this ability will allow him to start his damage items earlier by making him able to sustain more early damage. It will also enable him to pick up a quick jungle camp for more gold and xp while healing him up for more lane presence and combating harass. Most people would see W as more of a way to just get a cord on an enemy, but the cord bonus actually makes this move a viable combat ability by allowing a quick burst of damage from a bound to be much higher AD scale.
Marionette is an ability I chose purely because, when playing assassin characters, I've noticed that it becomes very hard to finish off your prey after the initial combo. Also, this ability is one that highly offensive junglers will love for the pure counter jungling harass. It allows you to 1. sneak into the enemy jungle and instead of having to work your way into a buff camp and hope the enemy jugler doesn't walk by pull a buff carrier out of its camp and finish it off before your enemy can react. or 2. wait with a ward in the enemy buff camp and snatch their buff away after they've done most of the work. Additionally, it provides a small way to combat counter junglers in that you can pull the creatures you want into brush and finish them with stealth where the enemy is less likely to find you. In lane this ability allows Daimon to be a useful solo-top champion by disabling champions that bully him out of lane with tankiness and harass. Basically, the little guy gets to fight on his terms for once. Also, this move is excellent for teamfights in that, when timed and positioned properly, it can create an opening for your team to initiate on high priority champs like ranged AD carries or it can disable AoE damage tanks by separating them from their group or your low-health temmates.
Star of the Show is obviously inspired by champs like Jayce and Elise who change with a level 1 ultimate but also by Udyr with his ability to level an ultimate from the beginning and the fact that form switching granted temporary buffs. But, I wanted Daimon to be unique from them by granting him the lvl1 ult like Jayce, but giving him temporary buffs like udyr. However, I did main Jinx for a time and loved the fact that when it came down to the end of the chase, she could switch to her rocket launcher for more damage. So, I applied this concept of a switch for finish to the wanting a temporary buff and bam, Daimon's ult. It not only extends the chase of an enemy, but it also allows for better turret diving which is whats wanted from every jungler.
